F1 Fantasy Winners and Losers: 2026 Hungarian Grand Prix

Winners

Ferrari

Qualifying: P2 (Hamilton) and P3 (Leclerc)

Race: P4 (Leclerc) and P5 (Hamilton) 

Ferrari was the highest-scoring F1 Fantasy team for the second race in a row with 71 F1 Fantasy points after a P4 and P5 finish in the Hungarian Grand Prix. They might have wished for a podium or a win here in Hungary after leading the first two practices, but they unfortunately lost some of their pace in the race. They were, however, able to beat the likes of McLaren and Mercedes thanks to solid reliability. Piastri‘s McLaren had a gearbox failure and Russell’s Mercedes had an anti-stall issue at the start. In F1 Fantasy, it’s imperative for both cars to finish the race to avoid any -20 point penalties,and Ferrari did just that. Both cars gained $0.3M in budget for their effort.

Lando Norris

Qualifying: P1

Race: P1

The reigning World Champion won his first Grand Prix of this Formula 1 season at the Hungarian Grand Prix, the first repeat win of his career. He was trailing his teammate, Oscar Piastri, for much of the race, but Norris was able to pull out a gap in clean air after Piastri’s second pit stop. He steadily increased that gap past Piastri’s retirement, and eventually won the race by 15 seconds over Max Verstappen. He earned 37 F1 Fantasy points and gained $0.3M in budget.

Aston Martin

Qualifying: P16 (Alonso) and P20 (Stroll) 

Race: P13 (Stroll) and P14 (Alonso)

It feels weird to put Aston Martin in the winners column, but they’ve certainly earned it. The team brought a huge upgrade package to the Hungarian Grand Prix that vaulted Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll solidly back in contention with the midfield. They were able to finish just outside the points in P13 and P14, which is a strong indication that future upgrades or a stroke of good luck could see Aston Martin scoring their first championship points of the season soon. Aston Martin earned 36 F1 Fantasy points and gained $0.6M in budget which also makes them the highest-scoring midfield team from the Hungarian Grand Prix.

Isack Hadjar

Qualifying: P8

Race: P6

Isack Hadjar played the team game in this race by helping hold up Max Verstappen’s rivals, notably Lewis Hamilton after both of his pitstops. Luckily, he also scored championship points and F1 Fantasy points in the process. He qualified eighth and finished sixth due to Oscar Piastri’s retirement and by passing George Russell at the start. He finished with 15 F1 Fantasy points and an $0.6M price increase. For those who can’t afford a true 4A build yet, Hadjar is an increasingly attractive option.

‍Losers

Oscar Piastri

Qualifying: P5 (Started P3)

Race: DNF

For a large part of the race, Oscar Piastri looked like he was in strong contention for the lead after going from P3 to P1 on the first lap of the race. His race started unraveling, however, after he and Carlos Sainz made contact when Piastri was lapping Sainz. His gearbox then failing with 15 laps to go was the final nail in the coffin. Piastri was livid after the race, and it was certainly a disappointing end after a promising start to the weekend. He ended up with -11 F1 Fantasy points and a -$0.3M price change.

Cadillac

Qualifying: P21 (Bottas) and P22 (Perez)

Race: DNF (Bottas) and DNF (Perez)

On the bright side, both Cadillacs were able to get to the pits before they retired their cars (or in Bottas' case, the very edge of the pit exit…). On the not so bright side, neither car was able to finish the race, and Cadillac will take two retirement penalties in F1 Fantasy. The hot races seem to affect their car disproportionately, as they’ve faced several brake fires that have caused retirements. Today’s audience could see the smoke from Bottas’ brakes in the pit lane. For now, they’re an immediate sell for all teams. Cadillac received -37 points and a -$0.3M price change.

Williams

Qualifying: P18 (Sainz) and P19 (Albon)

Race: P17 (Albon) and P18 (Sainz)

Williams continued their disappointing season in Hungary while their rivals in Aston Martin jumped ahead of them with their new upgrades. Both Carlos Sainz and Alex Albon have expressed their disappointment in the team's direction this season, and even their strong Mercedes PU was unable to help. Sainz got an additional penalty for his contact with Piastri, but the only person it dropped him below was his teammate. They finish with 10 F1 Fantasy points and an -$0.2M price change.
