F1 faces possible revolt

The FIA is considering adding up to two new teams to F1 as early as 2025 and is currently reviewing applications from potential entrants, with a decision expected by the end of June. But Haas team principal, Guenther Steiner, has said that all 10 Formula 1 teams hold similar opinions against adding more teams to the sport. Steiner argues that if there is no upside for everyone, there is no point in adding more teams and increasing the number of teams may not be beneficial.

FIA begins cutting DRS effectiveness

The FIA has made a third major rule change for the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, reducing the length of the second DRS zone by 100 meters. The alteration will make it harder for drivers to overtake on the run-up to turn one. The first DRS zone on the exit of turn two and the detection point on the exit of turn 20 will remain unchanged. The changes are part of FIA's effort to make the DRS tool less effective at several venues. Former F1 director Ross Brawn had earlier suggested reducing the effect of DRS. The new rule comes just after the FIA introduced two updates for the Azerbaijan GP.

Azerbaijan accused of ethnic cleansing ahead of Baku

Armenian officials have called on F1 and the international sports community to protest against Azerbaijan's alleged "ethnic cleansing policy" in Nagorno-Karabakh ahead of the 2023 Formula 1 Grand Prix in Baku. In a statement, the officials claimed that Azerbaijan had blocked the Lachin Corridor and cut off gas and electricity supplies, creating a humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh. They also accused Azerbaijan of trying to ethnically cleanse the Armenian population of Nagorno-Karabakh and urged F1 not to be a part of the cover-up of this policy.

Marko demanded Horner pay everything upfront

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko turned 80 today, and Christian Horner, team principal, recalls when they first met. In 1996, Horner, along with his father, went to Austria to purchase equipment for their Formula 3000 team, Arden, from Marko, who was then involved with RSM Marko in the junior classes leading up to Formula 1. Horner recalls paying Marko everything he could for a trailer upfront, which was eventually delivered to England. Horner and Marko have since worked closely together, achieving many driver and constructor successes. Horner praised Marko's eye for talent and his contribution to the team, stating that there are "a few more years in the old dog yet."
