Schumacher eyed as clear replacement for Sargeant

Mick Schumacher is seen as the clear choice to replace Logan Sargeant at Williams if Sargeant's performance doesn't improve in the latter half of the season. F1 reporter Lawrence Barretto suggests that Schumacher, currently a reserve driver for Mercedes after losing his seat at Haas in 2022, could step in if Sargeant struggles to make progress. Williams already has Alex Albon confirmed for 2024, and while Sargeant has had a decent start, he needs to enhance his performance to secure another season. If he doesn't, Schumacher is a likely replacement due to his prior discussions with the team and his ongoing involvement with Mercedes.

Aston Martin investing 'crazy hours' in the pursuit of prominence

Aston Martin's team principal, Mike Krack, lauded the "crazy work" behind their F1 resurgence, propelling them from seventh to second-fastest with winter upgrades. Despite Fernando Alonso's strong start with six podiums, the team slipped to fifth place, a sentiment Krack shared. He attributed performance issues to "side effects" from updates, notably in slow corners, as confirmed at the Hungaroring race. Krack stressed the importance of positively ending the season's first part after intense efforts and acknowledged the need for ongoing progress, given they are still far from podium contention.

Leclerc’s improved performance baffled engineers

Ferrari's engineers are puzzled by Charles Leclerc's recent speed in the SF-23, considering his slow start this season. Despite initial struggles, Leclerc secured pole position and podiums at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, finished second at the Austrian GP, and impressed with a third-place finish at Spa-Francorchamps, maintaining his position against strong competition. Leclerc's consistency has outshone his teammate Carlos Sainz's more lackluster performance. Ferrari acknowledges Leclerc's exceptional performance this year and reportedly plans to retain him until 2026, with a potential extension. Meanwhile, Sainz might leave Ferrari when his contract ends in 2024 and is linked to a move to Sauber ahead of their merger with Audi in 2026.
