FIA's secret ban linked to Alonso's slump

Fernando Alonso began the 2023 season strongly with Aston Martin, securing six podium finishes in the first eight races. However, his performance declined in the recent races, attributed to the FIA's ban on certain parts of the AMR23 car. Despite Alonso's early promise, he struggled to maintain podium placements due to these changes and the team's explanations, ranging from new upgrades affecting aerodynamics to altered tire compounds. Reports suggest the FIA secretly prohibited a component during the British Grand Prix, prompting significant alterations to the front wings and affecting performance. Aston Martin's connection with Honda and their future engine supplier switch might have also contributed to the decline. The team plans a comeback by introducing a significant upgrade package after the summer break.‍

Russell lashes out at Formula 3 regulations

George Russell has criticized Formula 3 for allowing too many cars on track at once, causing issues like traffic during qualifiers, especially at fast tracks like Monza or Red Bull Ring. Driver safety concerns heightened after Dilano van't Hoff's death in July at Spa-Francorchamps. F1 drivers, including Oscar Piastri, disliked the track's design, while Russell emphasized visibility issues in wet conditions. Russell believed the problem wouldn't be solved soon, appreciating FIA's efforts but predicting challenges. He also expressed worry about junior categories' safety due to the high number of cars on track, foreseeing potential accidents.

Zhou Guanyu set to renew Alfa Romeo contract

Zhou Guanyu is a dependable Formula 1 driver for Alfa Romeo, matching his experienced teammate Valtteri Bottas. Despite initial criticism, Zhou has proven himself as a solid performer, though not reaching the heights of some others. Bottas still has a slight edge in performance, but Alfa Romeo's driver lineup suits their competitiveness. The team intends to keep both drivers next year, with Zhou preferring a long-term contract. While Theo Pourchaire is an option, Zhou's current level makes him a better fit. There are rumors of Zhou joining Haas, but their partnership's continuation depends on agreeable terms.
