Ferrari slow releasing Mekies to AlphaTauri

Ferrari and AlphaTauri are reportedly at odds over Laurent Mekies' departure from Ferrari to join AlphaTauri. Ferrari's new team boss, Fred Vasseur, insists he won't block Mekies' move to Ferrari's rival team. AlphaTauri had previously announced that Mekies would replace Franz Tost as their team boss in 2024, which upset Ferrari. During the Monaco Grand Prix weekend, Ferrari and Red Bull reportedly met to discuss the terms of Mekies' departure. Vasseur stated that they would handle the situation in the proper manner, aiming to find a fair solution for everyone involved. AlphaTauri has Peter Bayer as a backup if Mekies doesn't join immediately.

FIA rules on Hamilton-Russell collision

During qualifying, Lewis Hamilton and George Russell had a collision attributed to a "miscommunication." The stewards analyzed the incident and found that Russell, without informing Hamilton, abandoned his flying lap while Hamilton attempted to overtake him. The stewards focused on Russell's actions, particularly his sudden change of direction, which resulted in contact and damage to Hamilton's front wing. Russell admitted to not checking his mirrors but also highlighted that his team did not inform him of Hamilton's approach. In their ruling, the stewards recognized Russell's lack of awareness and his reactive behavior as mitigating factors.

Verstappen faces tax controversy

Max Verstappen, a successful Formula 1 driver, has been accused of evading taxes by moving to Monaco to avoid paying taxes in his native country, the Netherlands. Critics argue that Verstappen's tax avoidance deprives the Netherlands of millions of dollars. They claim he has contributed little to the economy while benefiting from the country's resources and education. However, others defend Verstappen, stating that his actions are legal and that he is not obligated to pay taxes on income earned outside the Netherlands. It is noted that several other Formula 1 drivers, including Lewis Hamilton, also choose to live in Monaco for tax reasons. Monaco's favorable tax rules make it an attractive destination for high-income individuals in the sports industry who seek to reduce their tax burden.
