Pirelli's tire supplier designation challenged

The FIA recently invited companies to apply for a contract to supply tires for Formula 1 from 2025 to 2027, with a possible extension until 2028. The application deadline was May 15, and the FIA is currently evaluating the proposals. Pirelli, the current tire supplier, faced competition from Hankook in the previous tender process but received a one-year extension until 2024 due to pandemic-related delays. It is believed that Bridgestone, a Japanese company previously involved in Formula 1, has applied for the new contract. Bridgestone has expressed interest in exploring involvement in Formula 1 and other motorsports series but has not confirmed its application for the tire tender contract.

Why Russell got away "with running off track"

George Russell avoided a penalty for running off the track at the start of the Spanish Grand Prix. Christian Horner, the team boss of Red Bull, questioned this decision since Russell finished on the podium while Red Bull driver Sergio Perez, who stayed on the track, finished fourth. However, former F1 driver and Sky Sports pundit Anthony Davidson explained that Russell was marginally ahead of another car when he went off, which is why he wasn't penalized for rejoining the track ahead. Instead of focusing on Russell's move, Davidson suggested that Red Bull should review Perez's strategy, as starting on medium tires instead of soft ones may have affected his performance.

F1 abandons South African GP

Efforts to revive the South African Grand Prix at Kyalami have been abandoned due to political reasons. Talks between F1 and promoter Warren Scheckter broke down over financial issues. A new promoter, 777, had rekindled hope for the race, but the decision to cancel it was made because South Africa is closely aligned with Russia politically. F1 had previously abandoned the Russian Grand Prix due to Russia's actions in Ukraine. South Africa's failure to denounce Russia's actions and allegations of supplying arms to Russia led to the cancellation. As a result, the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa-Francorchamps is likely to remain on the F1 calendar for another year.
