Mercedes team principal Toto Wolff urged the FIA to improve the racing spectacle for fans after the Azerbaijan Grand Prix was criticized for being boring, but he was accused of hypocrisy by Sky Sports F1 pundit Karun Chandhok. Chandhok pointed out that Wolff did not complain when Nico Rosberg won an uneventful race in Baku in 2016, during Mercedes' dominant period. Red Bull has been the dominant team over the past two seasons, with Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez at the front of the grid, and Wolff suggested more needs to be done to improve the on-track action during races.

Russian racing driver Egor Orudzhev and other experts believe that Nyck de Vries, a 28-year-old Dutchman and rookie driver for AlphaTauri in Formula 1, is in danger of being fired just four races into his first full-time season at AlphaTauri. De Vries crashed out of both qualifying and the race at Baku and has not scored any points this season. Jan Lammers, a former F1 driver, and Dutch GP boss, believes de Vries needs to improve his game urgently. Lammers said the car was good enough for a point at Baku, but de Vries failed to deliver. Orudzhev believes that top Red Bull official Helmut Marko could fire de Vries if he does not improve soon.

Red Bull driver Sergio Perez has been urged to get under Max Verstappen's skin in order to have a chance of winning the Drivers' Championship title this year. Mercedes simulator driver Anthony Davidson advised Perez to take inspiration from Nico Rosberg's successful fight against Lewis Hamilton in 2016. Davidson believes that Perez should stop being Mr. Nice Guy and annoy Verstappen to establish himself as a genuine title contender this year. Perez has won two races so far this season and is only six points behind Verstappen in the standings. Davidson added that Perez needs to maintain his winning form to challenge Verstappen for the title.

There is a slight change in the schedule of the Miami Grand Prix, as the Friday Formula 1 free practice times have been brought forward. The changes only affect Friday's on-track action, with the rest of the weekend's schedule remaining unchanged.
