Mercedes posts £89 million profit amid 2022 performance dip

In 2022, Mercedes-Benz Grand Prix Limited reported a turnover of £475 million and profits of £89 million, despite not winning a Formula 1 title for the first time since 2014. Their revenue increased by 24% year-on-year to £474.5 million, boosted by higher F1 revenues, sponsorship deals, and work from their Applied Science Division. Sponsors and licensing contributed 51% of their revenue, while 30% came from the F1 prize fund. The team approved a £75 million dividend for shareholders, including team principal Toto Wolff and Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Mercedes increased its workforce to 1,114 employees and decreased wages to £82.1 million. They aim to recruit 25% of new starters from under-represented backgrounds and have exceeded expectations with 32% from under-represented backgrounds and a rise in female employees.

FIA probes extreme heat racing following Qatar GP

The FIA is investigating racing in extreme temperatures after the Qatar Grand Prix, where drivers felt unwell due to hot and humid conditions. They aim to find solutions for future events, stressing that drivers' health and safety should not be compromised. Potential measures, like guidance for competitors and changes to the calendar, will be discussed at an upcoming medical commission meeting in Paris, drawing from research in other series with extreme climate experience.

Bearman test drives F1 car for Haas

Oliver Bearman, a member of the Ferrari Driver Academy, recently had his first experience driving a Formula 1 car at the Fiorano test track in preparation for practice sessions with the Haas team at two upcoming Grand Prix events. The 18-year-old, who is currently in his rookie F2 season, has had a successful track record with four wins and three poles out of 12 rounds, positioning him as a potential runner-up in the championship. He will participate in F1 practice sessions at the Mexican Grand Prix and the season finale in Abu Dhabi, fulfilling Haas' requirement for inexperienced driver participation. Although there were months of speculation, Bearman's role with Haas was officially confirmed last week, indicating a strengthening connection between the two teams despite their historical lack of driver sharing.

Albon tours Losail paddock
