Anna Weis is an American professional sailor who competes as a grinder and jib trimmer for the United States SailGP Team. She is the first woman to hold a full-time grinder role in SailGP. 

Weis started sailing at the age of eight and moved into competitive sailing during high school. In 2016, she won the U.S. Women's Singlehanded National Championship in the Laser Radial class. In 2017, she switched to the Nacra 17 class and later represented the United States at the 2019 Pan American Games, where she won a gold medal. 

She also competed at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. Weis joined the United States SailGP Team in late 2021 and secured a full-time role for the 2022 season. Since then, she has competed as a grinder and jib trimmer and became the first full-time female grinder in SailGP history.

Anna Weis was born on March 24, 1998, in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, United States, to Holger and Nancy Weis. She grew up in one of America's most active sailing communities and attended her first sailing camp at the age of eight. 

The experience sparked her interest in the sport, and she continued sailing throughout her school years. While attending St. Thomas Aquinas High School, Weis competed regularly and developed into one of the country's top young sailors. 

She later studied at Boston University, where she competed as a rower and developed the strength and fitness that would later help her in high-performance sailing.

How did Anna Weis get to SailGP?

Anna Weis reached SailGP after competing at the highest level of Olympic sailing. She raced in the Nacra 17 class and represented the United States at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. 

Following the Olympics, United States SailGP Team driver Jimmy Spithill invited her to trial with the team in late 2021. The trial led to a place on the roster for the 2022 SailGP season. 

Weis took on the roles of grinder and jib trimmer and later became the first woman to serve as a full-time grinder in SailGP.
