Bearman Welcomes Câmara to F1, Sets Sights on Team Leadership

AUSTIN, Texas — Haas arrive at Austin in the wake of announcing that Rafael Câmara will replace Esteban Ocon in 2027. The Brazilian youngster won the Formula 3 championship last season and currently leads the Formula 2 standings with just two races to go.

On Thursday, Oliver Bearman spoke to the media, including FanAmp, about the similarities he shares with his new teammate and his enthusiasm to become the lead driver next season.

Bearman noted the two Ferrari juniors share many things in common, including a birthday week. “It's funny because we joined Ferrari on the same day. We both signed at the same time, and I think we're like 3 or 4 days apart in, in birthdays, so we have a joint birthday party.”

Ahead of Câmara’s rookie season, Bearman lauded the nurturing atmosphere at Haas, saying, “I think Haas is a great place to start your F1 career. It's a great team, welcoming, and probably quite different compared to other teams.”

After racing alongside Esteban Ocon, a ten-year veteran of the sport, Bearman feels he is ready to become the lead driver for the American outfit.

Speaking to his readiness to mentor a rookie teammate, Bearman said, “I think this year has been a big step for myself in terms of on-track performance, but more importantly, how I deal with the team, how I transition into that role of leading the team. I think I've seen a big step in how I deal with the team, but also how the team values my input and my feedback.”

Despite Bearman’s enthusiasm to welcome a new teammate in 2027, Haas still haven’t confirmed his seat for next season. Bearman remained steadfast about his intent to stay at Haas, with an eye toward challenging at the top of the grid.

“In terms of a midfield team, Haas is the team that I want to be with and I see my future with, but at some point as well I feel like I've earned the opportunity to go out and look for a top-4 team. And of course, with my link with Ferrari, that would be my ultimate goal.”

Bearman enters the weekend thirteenth in the World Drivers’ Championship with 23 points. He looks to build from an encouraging performance at Circuit of the Americas last season, when he finished P9.
