F1 Fantasy Winners and Losers: Austrian Grand Prix 2026

George Russell finally found his way to the top step of a Formula 1 podium once again at this weekend’s Austrian Grand Prix. Behind him, world champions Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen went wheel-to-wheel trying to make it on the podium, with Verstappen eventually winning out and Hamilton settling for fourth position. F1 Fantasy winners and losers below…

Winners

Max Verstappen

Qualifying: P5

Race: P2

Red Bull’s home race weekend looked to be off to a bad start for Max Verstappen when he crashed dramatically into the barrier during his second qualifying lap in Q3. However, during the race, Red Bull’s long-awaited updates proved fruitful as Verstappen was able to gain three places and finish on the podium for the second time this Formula 1 season. He earned the Driver of the Day award for his efforts and completed six overtakes on his way to becoming the highest scoring F1 Fantasy driver of the weekend with 43 F1 Fantasy points.

Arvid Lindblad

Qualifying: P10

Race: P10

Racing Bulls’ young British driver had another solid weekend in Austria and was able to qualify and finish in the top 10. While Lindblad didn’t gain any positions during the race, he made four overtakes in order to maintain his position through the pit stop phase and was adequately rewarded with F1 Fantasy points, bringing his weekend total to six. Additionally, he was one of only three B-Tier drivers to gain the maximum budget of $0.6M (the other two being Pierre Gasly and Isack Hadjar).

Mercedes

Qualifying: P1 (Russell) and P4 (Antonelli)

Race: P1 (Russell) and P3 (Antonelli)

Mercedes was F1 Fantasy’s highest scoring constructor this week with 85 points. Their nearest rivals, Red Bull, had just 68 points. Austria was actually the first time both Mercedes drivers scored F1 championship points since the Miami Grand Prix, as they’ve faced some reliability struggles in the meantime. However, with an updated battery, both drivers were able to race wheel-to-wheel and at one point, it looked like Kimi Antonelli was also going to be able to pass Verstappen in the closing laps before time ran out. The team finished the race with a double podium, and earned a $0.3M budget increase in addition to the points haul.

Audi

Qualifying: P12 (Gabriel Bortoleto) and P14 (Nico Hulkenberg)

Race: P11 (Gabriel Bortoleto) and P12 (Nico Hulkenberg)

Audi may not have scored any championship points, but impressively they were able to score 15 F1 Fantasy points and gain $0.6M in price. Nico Hulkenberg and Gabriel Bortoleto both made overtakes during the race for a total seven F1 Fantasy points. The Audi mechanics also put in work, earning Audi two F1 Fantasy points for a fast pitstop during the race. They’re making solid strides for a new team.

Losers

Cadillac

Qualifying: P19 (Perez) and P20 (Bottas)

Race: DNF (Perez) and DNF (Bottas)

Cadillac’s race was over almost before it began after both drivers reported smoke in their cockpits within the first five laps of the race. Unfortunately, they were both unable to continue and the team’s day came to a quick and early end. The upcoming European leg is expected to feature a multitude of challenging race days as the continent experiences historic heat, so this might not be a one-off for Cadillac in the near future as well. They finished with -35 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price drop.

Carlos Sainz

Qualifying: P17

Race: DNF

The Spanish driver parked right in the middle of the start-finish straight on lap 25 of the Austrian Grand Prix and couldn’t complete his weekend from there. While Sainz wasn’t running in the points scoring positions regardless, he will undoubtedly be disappointed about Williams’ form and reliability so far this year. He ended up scoring -17 F1 Fantasy points and losing $0.6M in value.

Lance Stroll

Qualifying: P22

Race: DNF

Lance Stroll is the most common resident of my Losers list, and this week is no different. The Canadian faced another disappointing weekend in Austria and was unable to finish the race after a technical failure. Aston Martin is expected to continue struggling for pace, reliability, and driveability for another couple races, and until then, they aren’t able to fight for much of anything, F1 Fantasy or otherwise. Stroll finished with -17 F1 Fantasy points and another $0.6M price drop.
