F1 Fantasy Winners and Losers: 2026 Mexican Grand Prix

Kimi Antonelli became the youngest Formula 1 World Champion ever, while Max Verstappen beat the feuding Ferraris to win the race and score a huge F1 Fantasy points haul. Despite their intra-team rivalry, Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc kept it cool enough to finish on the podium and P4, respectively, earning the Ferrari plenty of F1 Fantasy points. F1 Fantasy Winners and Losers from the Mexican Grand Prix below…

Winners

Max Verstappen

Qualifying: P4, started P5

Race: P1

The Mexico City Grand Prix weekend started off rough for Max Verstappen after he was handed a one-place grid penalty for a collision with Liam Lawson during Free Practice 2. However, the Dutch driver was still able to take advantage of Ferrari’s infighting at the beginning of the race (more on that later) to slip into second position by the end of the first lap. After Charles Leclerc served his 5-second penalty, Verstappen took the lead of the race, and he was able to stay in the lead through both the red flag and safety car restarts. Verstappen scored 49 F1 Fantasy points and gained $0.6M in budget.

Liam Lawson

Qualifying: DSQ, started from the pit lane

Race: P7

Liam Lawson was the third-highest-scoring F1 Fantasy driver from the weekend, even beating out newly crowned World Champion Kimi Antonelli. But it took a lot to get there, after he was unfortunately disqualified from Qualifying when his car failed the inspection and he was forced to start from the pit lane. Lawson may have found it frustrating, but it was a blessing in disguise for F1 Fantasy teams who owned him. He was able to gain 15 positions and score 11 overtake points. Lawson scored 27 F1 Fantasy points for the weekend and gained $0.6M in budget.

Ferrari

Qualifying: P1 (Hamilton) and P3 (Leclerc)

Race: P2 (Hamilton) and P4 (Leclerc)

The story of Ferrari from this weekend will be the controversial penalty that Charles Leclerc received on the first lap of the race. He was handed a five-second penalty from the stewards for leaving the track and gaining an advantage when he was trying to take first place from Lewis Hamilton. This penalty would normally have been ten seconds, which is what Hamilton and Verstappen both seemed to be arguing for, but the stewards stated that Hamilton had also gone off-track and therefore the punishment was more lenient. Both Ferrari drivers expressed displeasure over losing a win for the team, but they were still able to finish one driver on the podium. They scored 73 F1 Fantasy points, the second-highest for a constructor, and gained $0.3M in budget.

‍

Williams

Qualifying: P15 (Sainz) and P16 (Albon)

Race: P11 (Albon) and P12 (Sainz)

Williams was the highest-scoring midfield team in F1 Fantasy this week, for the first time so far this season. Their mechanics delivered the fastest pit stop of the race, earning the team 15 F1 Fantasy points for the achievement. Additionally, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz had a combined 10 overtakes across the race distance. Williams finished with 36 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price increase.

‍

Losers

Oscar Piastri

Qualifying: P12

Race: P13

Oscar Piastri’s season went from bad to worse yet again at the Mexico City Grand Prix. On Saturday, he was knocked out in Q2 for the first time since the 2024 race at the same venue. On Sunday, he fought his way back to P7 where he ultimately finished, however, a post-race penalty for causing a collision with Arvid Lindblad late in the race dropped Piastri back out of the championship points. He finished with 7 F1 Fantasy points and lost $0.3M in value.

‍

Alpine

Qualifying: P9 (Gasly) and P11 (Colapinto)

Race: P15 (Colapinto) and P17 (Gasly)

Alpine had a topsy-turvy weekend in Mexico. Both drivers, Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto, initially finished in the championship points. However, both drivers also received post-race penalties for failing to slow under yellow flags, causing them to drop back to P17 and P15 respectively. They finished with 10 F1 Fantasy points, earned mainly for their qualifying positions, and a -$0.3M price change.

‍

Aston Martin

Qualifying: P17 (Alonso) and P19 (Stroll)

Race: DNF

It’s no understatement that Aston Martin has had significantly more bad than good races this year. In Mexico, their pain was quick and short: both cars DNF’d before the first ten laps were over. Fernando Alonso has been on record saying “the quality of the drivers at the back of the grid is very low,” but he was unable to go wheel-to-wheel with any of them on Sunday. They finished with -38 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price drop.
