George Russell earned the first Grand Slam of his Formula 1 career when he managed to start from pole, lead every lap, and drive the fastest lap of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. He was able to lead throughout multiple safety car periods, one right after the other, and win by one hundredth of a second despite Max Verstappen’s best efforts to pass him in the final laps of the race. Other drivers up and down the grid weren’t so pleased with their days, as there were 7 retirements throughout the race. With all the dust now settled, let’s look at the F1 Fantasy Winners and Losers from Baku…
Winners
Red Bull
Qualifying: P4 (Hadjar) and P8 (Verstappen)
Race: P2 (Verstappen) and P3 (Hadjar)
Red Bull achieved a double podium in Baku with Max Verstappen in second and Isack Hadjar in third, and the team became the second-highest-scoring F1 Fantasy team from the race. Laurent Mekies and the team have been fighting for their first win of the season, and at points in Baku it looked like both Max Verstappen and Isack Hadjar had the pace necessary for it. Unfortunately for Red Bull, Russell was able to hang on until the end and the team had to settle for P2 and P3. Hadjar, who hadn’t raced in six weeks due to a wrist injury, didn’t seem rusty at all, either. Verstappen’s drive earned him the Driver of the Day award, which added another 10 F1 Fantasy points to his personal F1 Fantasy score. The team ended with 71 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.3M price gain.
George Russell
Qualifying: P1
Race: P1
George Russell has had his share of struggles this season, but he took an emphatic third win of the season on the streets of Baku by holding off Max Verstappen to the line. This win was essential for his title hopes, as his teammate was knocked out in Q1 of Qualifying and was only able to finish the race in P5. That meant Russell was also able to close the gap by 15 championship points. F1 Fantasy-wise, Russell also earned the fastest lap points, which added an extra 10 F1 Fantasy points to his total, finishing his weekend with 45 F1 Fantasy points, the highest total for a driver this weekend, and a $0.3M price gain.
Arvid Lindblad
Qualifying: P15
Race: P7
Arvid Lindblad continued his extremely impressive rookie season with another championship points-scoring race in Baku. Unfortunately, during the race he did get in a collision with Liam Lawson after the first safety car restart, and that resulted in Lawson’s retirement. Lindblad, however, was able to continue on mostly damage-free to secure P7. He also gained an impressive 8 positions throughout the race. He was also the highest-placing midfield driver in the race, finishing only behind Mercedes, Red Bull, and Ferrari cars. He ended with 17 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price rise.
Haas
Qualifying: P11 (Bearman) and P14 (Ocon)
Race: P8 (Ocon) and P9 (Bearman)
Both Haas drivers were able to score championship points for the first time this year, with Esteban Ocon in P8 and Oliver Bearman in P9. They started further back, but after both Alpines and Lando Norris retired from the race after a crash, the Haas duo were able to hang on safely throughout the second safety car restart to finish in the points. They finished with 21 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price rise.
Losers
Alpine
Qualifying: P7 (Gasly) and P10 (Colapinto)
Race: DNF (Gasly) and DNF (Colapinto)
Alpine was having a really promising race with both cars consistently running in the points until the safety car restart caused by Alex Albon’s DNF started unraveling both Pierre Gasly and Franco Colapinto’s races. Franco Colapinto locked up at the restart and hit both Pierre Gasly and Lando Norris, ending all three of their races in the run-off area at Turn 1. Alpine ended the race with -18 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.5M price drop.
McLaren
Qualifying: P3 (Piastri) and P5 (Norris)
Race: P14 (Piastri) and DNF (Norris)
McLaren experienced their first weekend without scoring any championship points since Las Vegas 2025. Lando Norris was taken out by Franco Colapinto after the first restart. Oscar Piastri had been consistently running second throughout the race, doing his best to keep the Red Bull cars behind, but he then had a late lockup at Turn 1 that plummeted him down the order after the second safety car restart. He was unable to make progress back into the points and finished in P14. McLaren only scored 1 F1 Fantasy point from the weekend, although they were still able to gain $0.3M in budget.
Aston Martin
Qualifying: P19 (Alonso) and P21 (Stroll)
Race: DNF (Stroll) and DNF (Alonso)
Aston Martin’s woes continued in Baku: Lance Stroll has managed to finish only 2 out of the last ten races and this race was another flop, while Fernando Alonso also retired—his 6th of the year thus far. It looks like the team are simply not capable of setting up a car well enough to finish races consistently, and their misery shows no signs of slowing down through the remainder of this season. The team finished with -35 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price drop.
