With just one Grand Prix over the last seven weeks, it’s finally time to sink our teeth into the meat of the Formula 1 calendar. Thankfully, we now have the Canadian Grand Prix to look forward to this weekend, and then back to back doubleheaders with Monaco/Barcelona-Catalunya first and Austria/Great Britain later that month. F1 fans have a fantastic five weeks ahead to look forward to, so let’s dive right into the opening betting odds for Canada and get the party started.
McLaren to Win the Sprint Race +240
We saw a major upgrade package hit the McLaren cars in Miami and their pace was much improved compared to their early season results. They fought alongside the Mercedes, finishing first and second in the Sprint, and second and third in the Grand Prix. McLaren has announced that they will bring another strong upgrade package to Canada that will likely continue to increase their overall pace. If we’ve seen one team make massive gains in-season over the last few years, it’s been McLaren. They have shown the capability to improve quickly after starting the season slowly. I think they might still struggle with long term battery deployment compared to the Mercedes, so winning the Grand Prix may still be a stretch. But I think it’s still worth a shot that the papaya car will win the Sprint Race. If you like one particular driver over the other, Lando Norris is priced at +400 and Oscar Piastri at +900 to win the Sprint.
A Non-Mercedes Fastest Qualifier
So far in 2026, we have had six qualifying sessions and five of them have ended with a Mercedes on the top of the timing sheet. Mercedes has shown the best overall pace this season, but I think their gap is shrinking. In Miami, Norris was the fastest qualifier in Sprint Qualifying, followed closely by his teammate Piastri. Additionally, Max Verstappen was less than two tenths off pole position in Race Qualifying. If we expect Mercedes to continue to come back to the pack, then we have a great betting opportunity this weekend. Lando and Oscar are both +800 to be the fastest qualifier, while Max is +1000. Odds are nearly identical for Sprint Quali, so you could take two shots at this bet if you have one driver you are particularly enamored with.
Valtteri Bottas +200 to be Classified as Last Finisher
Valtteri Bottas had a bit of a rough weekend in Miami finishing as the last classified driver in the Sprint and the Grand Prix. Cadillac is focused on collecting data and finishing races this season. They are not trying to score points or win races. It might be worth a look to grab Bottas or Sergio Perez (+250) to finish the Grand Prix in last place.
Ferrari to lead the first lap
I took a stab at this bet in Miami when Charles Leclerc was +150 and Lewis Hamilton was +5,000. The Ferrari is a rocket ship off the line and has gained places on the first lap of every Grand Prix so far this year. Leclerc led lap 1 in Melbourne despite starting from P4. Hamilton led the first lap in China after starting P3. Leclerc went from P4 to P2 on the first lap in Japan. Most recently in Miami, Leclerc went from P3 to P1 on the first lap. These odds are typically available on Saturday, so you may have to wait a bit to place this wager. But as long as these drivers are starting in the Top 6 or so, I think it’s worth a shot.
