George Russell topped FP1 ahead of Verstappen in the first practice session of the Austrian Grand Prix weekend.
It's Round 11 of the 2025 Formula 1 season and the grid has arrived in Spielberg for the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring. Fresh off a dramatic weekend in Montreal, where George Russell reclaimed the top step of the podium and Kimi Antonelli secured his first-ever F1 podium at just 18 years old, the Silver Arrows team will be looking to carry that momentum into this weekend. Here's what happened during the first practice session of the Austrian Grand Prix:
- Rookies on track alert!
- Alex Dunn ran Lando Norris's McLaren
- Dino Beganovic completed the session in Charles Leclerc's car
- Ferrari struggled as they communicated via radio to Lewis Hamilton there were some gearbox issues
- Yellow flags were brought out by Fernando Alonso, who had a little spin halfway through the session, and Esteban Ocon later on, who went deep
- Alex Dunn had an incredibly impressive session finishing very behind teammate Oscar Piastri
- Stake had a strong start to the weekend with Gabriel Bortoleto finishing in P6
- Eight different teams made up the top 10
