Verstappen admits fault in Russell crash

Max Verstappen is one point away from a race ban after he drove into George Russell at the Spanish Grand Prix, even though his team told him Russell should go ahead. Verstappen was upset about the team’s tire choice and earlier contact with Russell and Charles Leclerc, and instead of backing off, he sped up and hit Russell on purpose. He got a 10-second penalty and three penalty points, which dropped him from fifth to tenth place and put him at 11 points — just one away from a ban. At first, Verstappen made a joke about it, but later admitted the move “was not right and shouldn’t have happened,” without an apology.

Hamilton said it was his worst race ever, but Ferrari’s team boss Vasseur said Hamilton’s car had a problem that made it hard for him to go faster. Leclerc also had some car trouble, but Ferrari said it wasn’t because of the oil leak that Mercedes talked about.
