Drivers snub FIA meeting invitation

Only eight out of the 20 Formula 1 drivers attended an FIA meeting regarding improving penalties, which was convened by FIA Sporting Commissioner Garry Connelly before the Mexico City Grand Prix. The meeting aimed to address issues related to track limit violations and the need for stricter penalties for accidents. Some recent FIA decisions had come under scrutiny, particularly concerning track limits. During the meeting, incidents involving Lewis Hamilton and Sergio Perez violating track limits were reviewed, but no penalties were imposed due to insufficient onboard camera evidence. The poor attendance at the meeting highlighted ongoing concerns among the drivers about these issues.

Williams fined as Hamilton, Verstappen, and Russell escape penalty

Lewis Hamilton, Max Verstappen, and George Russell faced no penalties for incidents during Mexican Grand Prix qualifying, where they were investigated for slowing at the pit lane exit to create gaps. The stewards attributed these issues to minimum lap time regulations but acknowledged the need for a better solution. Logan Sargeant received a 10-place grid penalty for overtaking under yellow flags based on seeing a green panel, leading to a violation of safety rules. Williams received a €20,000 fine for leaving a jack in the pit lane, with €10,000 suspended if no similar incidents occur in the next 12 months.

Ricciardo shows promise for future Red Bull seat

Daniel Ricciardo's performance in the Mexican Grand Prix qualifying, where he secured the second row, has added dramatic intrigue to the ongoing Red Bull driver saga, reminiscent of a "Drive to Survive" episode. Despite this, it's crucial to recognize Sergio Perez's strong performance relative to Max Verstappen. Ricciardo's return to form, characterized by a confidence boost and improved one-lap performance, is valuable for Red Bull, as it showcases his potential to be the ideal teammate for Verstappen. Ricciardo's comfort with the car's corner entry and consistent speed throughout the weekend highlight his renewed strength. If he can sustain this level of performance, it could strengthen his case for a Red Bull return, considering factors like commercial value, experience, and his rapport with Verstappen.

Alex and Logan's Texas Taste Test adventure

Williams Racing drivers Alex Albon and Logan Sargeant joined the Austin fun by visiting a local barbecue place called The Barbecue to enjoy some classic barbecue dishes. Albon had previously introduced Sargeant to a Singaporean meal during the Singapore GP, and now it was Sargeant's turn to share the experience with Albon in Austin.

Why Red Bull loves Perez

Sergio Perez stands out as one of the most determined Formula 1 drivers on the grid. Starting his journey in karting and relentlessly carving a path to Formula 1, he demonstrated remarkable determination by making an impressive comeback from the rear of the pack to secure a victory in the 2020 Sakhir Grand Prix. Those who closely work with him explain why he's so loved in the team.
