F1 Fantasy Winners and Losers: 2026 Chinese Grand Prix

The first Sprint of the Formula 1 season was always going to cause some form of chaos for F1 Fantasy players, with less practice time making team selection all that more precarious. At the end of the day, teams that were willing to take some risks with chips and with Kimi Antonelli were able to score big. Winners and losers from the Chinese Grand Prix below…

Winners

Kimi Antonelli (Mercedes)

Sprint: P5

Qualifying: P1

Race: P1

The 19-year-old Italian driver finished the Chinese Grand Prix as the youngest ever F1 polesitter, the second youngest ever F1 winner, and the driver that took home the most Fantasy F1 points from the weekend. He was plagued by start issues and a ten-second penalty in the Sprint, but he bounced back brilliantly with a stunning pole and dominant win. Along with his first pole and win, he also pulled in an extra 10 Fantasy points each from Driver of the Day and the fastest lap. Antonelli finished the weekend with 68 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.3M price rise.

Chip Users

There was a lot of pre-weekend debate on whether Limitless or the 3X chip should be used with the likes of the Ferrari and Mercedes drivers–at the end of the day, either was a good option, as a solid Limitless or 3X chip team was able to score 400+ F1 Fantasy points throughout the weekend. 3X may have been a slightly better bet, as most people’s 5th drivers on Limitless DNF’d (Piastri, Norris, and Verstappen). The teams who took the risk of putting the 3X chip on Antonelli instead of Russell will be especially pleased as Antonelli took home his first race win of his career and a whole heap of F1 Fantasy points.

Ferrari

Sprint: P2 (Leclerc) and P3 (Hamilton)

Qualifying: P3 (Hamilton) and P4 (Leclerc)

Race: P3 (Hamilton) and P4 (Leclerc)

Hamilton and Leclerc gave us all as viewers a treat throughout the race with their scintillating wheel-to-wheel battle, and Hamilton took a long-awaited first podium in a Ferrari that had the Tifosi delighted. Their battle also culminated in 21 race overtake bonus points for the team, and they received an extra 10 fastest pitstop points as well. Despite finishing 3-4 to Mercedes’ 1-2 in the race, these additional points vaulted the Italian constructor 4 points ahead of Mercedes as the highest scoring F1 Fantasy team from the Chinese GP with 119 points and a $0.3M price rise, while also being 5M cheaper..

Franco Colapinto (Alpine)

Sprint: P14

Qualifying: P12

Race: P10

Colapinto scored his first points for Alpine in the main race of the Chinese Grand Prix after some hectic battles after the safety car. Alpine looked to be competitive in the midfield this year, and Colapinto at one point was running in the top 5 for multiple laps. He’ll increase his value by $0.6M and bring home 18 F1 Fantasy points. Most importantly, he’ll be a solid budget building asset that’s still at a relatively affordable price, and now that Alpine is looking competitive, he could remain a good option on teams for the races to come as well.

Ollie Bearman (Haas)

Sprint: P8

Qualifying: P10

Race: P5

The young Haas driver was best of the rest for a second week in a row with a P5 finish in the Chinese Grand Prix after a P8 finish in the sprint. Helped out by issues for both McLarens and both Red Bulls as well as impressive overtakes in an intense midfield battle after the early safety car for Lance Stroll, Bearman finished with 34 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price rise. Haas, with a Ferrari engine, is also looking reliable thus far, and Bearman was a great asset to have this week, especially for teams that didn’t use the Limitless chip and were looking to still both score high and build budget.

Losers

McLaren

Sprint: P4 (Norris) and P6 (Piastri)

Qualifying: P5 (Piastri) and P6 (Norris)

Race: DNS (Both)

The two-time reigning Constructors’ Champions failed to start either driver for the Chinese Grand Prix when both Norris and Piastri were plagued with electrical issues before the beginning of the race. 33 F1 Fantasy points from the Sprint alleviate that -40 to leave McLaren with -7 F1 Fantasy points overall from the weekend, but when you take into consideration that other teams are scoring 100+ points, McLaren has nowhere to go but the Losers category two weeks in a row. They’ll also receive another -$0.3M price drop and remain an unattractive option for another couple weeks.

Alex Albon (Williams)

Sprint: P16

Qualifying: P18

Race: DNS

Albon is another driver who has been seemingly plagued by never-ending issues so far this season. After a pitlane start in the sprint, he was unable to start the main race at all due to some teething issues over at Williams. Fans are hoping that Albon can turn his season around in future races, but for now -7 F1 Fantasy points and a -$0.6M price drop in the Chinese Grand Prix won’t be what any team managers were looking for.

Gabriel Bortoleto (Audi)

Sprint: P13

Qualifying: P16

Race: DNS

After making Audi’s first Q3 and scoring their first championship points last week, Bortoleto unfortunately ended the Chinese Grand Prix as the driver with the least F1 Fantasy points due to a disappointing performance in the sprint and a DNS in the race. Bortoleto looked to have strong potential to build some solid budget this weekend, but unfortunately his DNS rendered him unusable. He ends with -14 points and a -$0.6M price drop, and he’ll move from the Buy to the Sell column this week.

Aston Martin

Sprint: P17 (Alonso) and P18 (Stroll)

Qualifying:P19 (Alonso) and P21 (Stroll)

Race: DNF (Both)

Unfortunately, Aston Martin was plagued by reliability and vibration issues for a second week straight as it doesn’t look like either Stroll or Alonso will be able to finish a race anytime soon. They were both able to complete the sprint, but at a full race distance the team was still facing intensive reliability and safety issues. They finished with -20 F1 Fantasy points and another -$0.6M price drop, and we expect this trend will continue until some big adjustments are made.
