Fantasy Preview: British Grand Prix

Silverstone, the birthplace of Formula 1, hosts the second half of this doubleheader as the championship heads to one of the sport's most iconic circuits. The British Grand Prix always delivers memorable moments, but this year's Sprint weekend presents some of the biggest F1 Fantasy decisions of the season. Is it finally time to move the 2X Boost off Kimi Antonelli? Which powerup chips deserve consideration? And how should the weather influence your strategy? Here's everything you need to know before locking in your lineup for Round 9.

Time for a 2X Flip?

Best 2X Boost Driver F1 FantasyUK

Kimi Antonelli's reign as the standout 2X Boosted driver in F1 Fantasy has come under fire in recent weeks. He suffered his first retirement of the year in Barcelona, breaking a streak of five consecutive 40-point performances. Last time out in Austria, the Italian sophomore finished third in the Grand Prix and tied for second in fantasy scoring behind Max Verstappen.

This race was unkind to Mercedes in 2025, with Antonelli out early after contact with Isack Hadjar and his teammate, hometown favorite George Russell, finishing just P10. The heavily-updated Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton, Lando Norris's run of form at Silverstone, and George Russell's triumph last weekend all highlight worthy alternatives for the 2X Boost this weekend.

Monitor Free Practice 1 and Sprint Qualifying on Friday for any signs of weakness from Mercedes. For teams considering a one-week replacement at the top of their teams, Hamilton stands above the rest due to his consistency this season (P2 in fantasy scoring, 33.0 points per race) and dominant record at this race.

Silverstone Sprint Reminders

2026 F1 Sprin

Only three Sprint weekends remain in the 2026 season, and in F1 Fantasy that means time is running out to play the biggest chips in the game. Consider these powerups before locking in your lineup this weekend:

  1. Limitless - Some players held onto this chip after popular early season plays that included Japan and Monaco. Miami proved that Sprint weekends can still deliver a huge result for Limitless teams and this circuit ranked among the bottom half of the calendar each of the last three seasons for overtakes. This means that the scoring gap between elite drivers and midfield value plays should be largest this weekend. Many players also saw six or more assets from their Austria team gain value, so Limitless provides a great opportunity to extract more budget gains after scores are final and lineups revert back to the previous race for price changes.

  1. 3X Boost - A few teams dabbled with 4A lineups that included Kimi Antonelli and Lewis Hamilton last weekend. These big budget lineups present the perfect opportunity for the 3X Boost, since the chip triples the score of one driver and doubles the score of another. If Hamilton looks strong in Sprint Qualifying, consider the 7-time champion as a differential 3X play with huge upside.

  1. No Negative - The DNF train rolled through the Red Bull Ring as another four drivers retired early last weekend. Sprint weekends feature two races for drivers to lose points in F1 Fantasy, so this chip expects to be a popular choice. If the forecast hints at any rain on Sunday, No Negative offers a season-defining advantage to whoever plays it.

One last Sprint reminder: Drivers only have one Free Practice to fine tune their setups and braking points. F1 Fantasy lineups lock at the start of the Sprint race at 7AM EST/12PM BST on Saturday.

British Grand Prix History

Silverstone Fantasy History

Lewis Hamilton's record at his home circuit ranks among the greatest of any driver at a single race in Formula 1 history. He won the British Grand Prix nine times and stood on the podium fifteen times (both all-time records), including twelve straight from 2014 to 2024. His 47 points in 2024 held the mark as Hamilton's highest fantasy score on a non-Sprint weekend until his stunning win and 56-point outing in Barcelona three weeks ago.

Another British son looks to build on his strong record at Silverstone. Lando Norris won this race last season and stood on his third straight British Grand Prix podium. Despite the win, Norris actually finished third in fantasy scoring on the day since he failed to secure the Fastest Lap and Driver of the Day awards — these went to the other two podium finishers.

Price floor extraordinaire, Nico Hulkenberg, took his maiden Formula 1 podium on his 239th race start here in 2025. Starting P19 in mixed conditions, Hulkenberg's wet weather expertise was on full display. He overruled his race engineer to orchestrate a flawless tire strategy and gain 16 positions in a memorable performance. Hulkenberg finished among the Top 10 on 11 occasions and looks to add another this weekend in an Audi that often contends for a spot in Q3.

Weather Outlook

British GP weather 2026

Forecasts currently call for a rare dry weekend at Silverstone, but the circuit's unpredictable microclimate means conditions can change quickly. Keep a close eye on the forecast as the weekend approaches. Temperatures initially appear lower than both the Barcelona-Catalunya and Austrian Grands Prix, which historically plays into the strengths of Mercedes.

The Fantasy Formula is back to answer all of your questions ahead of the lineup lock deadline. The action begins one hour before the start of the Sprint, this Saturday at 6AM EST/12PM BST, only on the official FanAmp YouTube channel. See you there!
