The 3X Boost Chip: Explained | F1 Fantasy Guide (2026)

Many F1 Fantasy players consider the 3X Boost the easiest of the six chips to use as it closely resembles the 2X Boost available to players every week. This chip remains one of the most powerful tools in the game, so selecting the best race for it is the key to a successful season. In this guide, we break down how the 3X Boost chip works, the best times to use it, and walk through an example of this chip from last season.

What is the 3X Boost?

Like the other five chips, the 3X Boost can only be played once per season. This chip triples the score of any one driver for an entire race weekend. The 2X Boost that teams receive every weekend can be applied to a different driver to double their score for the weekend as well.

When is the best time to use the 3X Boost?

Two situations provide the best value for the 3X Boost, both occur during Sprint weekends:

1. Sprint Weekend (Two Top Drivers) - The six Sprint weekends feature three scoring events (Sprint, Grand Prix Qualifying, and Grand Prix) and generate more fantasy points for this chip to triple. Of the Top 500 teams in the Global League last season, 54% used the 3X Boost at Qatar and 24.2% used it at the United States Grand Prix — both Sprint weekends. These Sprints took place in the second half of the season, once fantasy teams grew their budgets enough to afford two premium drivers for the 3X and 2X Boosts.

2. Sprint Weekend (Top Driver in the Bottom Five) - Elite drivers that fail to advance past Q1 or take an engine penalty provide great upside for the 3X Boost since they can score points for overtakes, positions gained, and sometimes Driver of the Day. In 2024 and 2025, Max Verstappen delivered two all-time fantasy performances from the back of the grid at Brazil. In 2024, he won the Grand Prix despite starting P17 and scored an F1 Fantasy record 77 points. One year later, Verstappen started the Grand Prix from the pit lane and finished P3 for a season-high 63 fantasy points.

In 2026, just two Sprint weekends are scheduled after the summer break and they stand out as the best races to use 3X Boost. The Dutch Grand Prix kicks off the second half of the season in late August and Singapore hosts the final Sprint in mid-October. In all likelihood, some teams will use 3X Boost at Zandvoort, but will need to run a midfield constructor to afford two premium drivers, while others will wait until the final Sprint in Singapore and hope for a dry weekend.

How the 3X Boost works in F1 Fantasy — Example Scenario

Here is an example of the 3X Boost from 2025. After playing the chip, select the driver for the 3X Boost:

Next, select the driver for the 2X Boost:

At the end of the weekend, the 3X-Boosted driver's score will be multiplied by 3 and the 2X-Boosted driver's score will be multiplied by 2. This math is listed under the score:

Is there anything else players should know about the 3X Boost?

Players typically apply the 3X Boost to their top driver and move the 2X Boost to their second best driver. For the next race, the 2X Boost will start the week on the second best driver (Russell in the example above) so remember to move it back to your top driver since many forget to take this step.
