His interest in motorsport grew even more through karting birthday parties during childhood. Sowery began karting in 2004 at eight years old and won several junior karting titles between 2004 and 2011. 

In 2012, he moved into senior karting and continued producing strong results before entering single-seater racing in 2014.

How did Toby Sowery get to IMSA?

Toby Sowery got into IMSA through a progression across karting, European single-seaters, and American endurance racing before moving into LMP2 and GT machinery.

He started karting in 2004 and won titles in Easykart, Junior TKM, and Junior Rotax GP. In 2014, he moved into single-seaters and won both the MSV F3 Cup and the MRF Challenge Formula 2000 championship.

Over the next few years, Sowery competed in British Formula 4 and British Formula 3, where he secured several race wins and finished as high as third in the British F3 standings.

After opportunities became limited in Europe, he shifted toward American racing and joined the Road to Indy ladder. Around the same period, he also entered endurance racing through the Asian Le Mans Series before later moving into IMSA endurance events in LMP2 machinery.

By 2024, Sowery had become a regular name in endurance racing, competing in IMSA and GT World Challenge Europe. As of 2026, he continues racing in IMSA programs.
