His father, Vitaliano Caldarelli, was a racing driver, and Andrea grew up watching him compete. Inspired by his father's career, he started karting at the age of seven before moving into single-seater racing at 14. He began in Formula Azzurra with Scuderia Pescara Corse and later progressed to Formula Renault 2.0.
