History was made in Barcelona this week as Lewis Hamilton took his first win for Ferrari, a historic 106th win for himself and Ferrari’s first win since Mexico 2024. While Hamilton was cruising to victory, multiple retirements and two virtual safety cars shook up the rest of the grid. F1 Fantasy teams were heavily affected, with winners and losers below…
The F1 Fantasy points and price changes below are currently provisional while Formula 1 addresses the Monaco Grand Prix results.
Winners
Lewis Hamilton
Qualifying: P2
Race: P1
The seven-time World Champion and most decorated driver in Formula 1 history makes history yet again with his 106th race win and first with Ferrari at the Barcelona-Catalunya Grand Prix. He took a risk from the beginning with a three-stop strategy, and Ferrari’s new upgrades proved to work beautifully as Hamilton won the race and set the fastest lap. Hamilton was also voted Driver of the Day and became the first driver to ever win a race for Mercedes, McLaren, and Ferrari. He earned 56 F1 Fantasy points and gained $0.3M in budget.
Pierre Gasly
Qualifying: P14
Race: P7
After much drama in Monaco including a recently awarded podium after successfully appealing a race penalty, Gasly turned around and was able to put together a solid weekend in Barcelona. He became the highest-scoring midfield driver with 17 F1 Fantasy points after gaining seven positions and benefiting from the retirements of Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc. Alpine experienced inter-race drama when Colapinto was asked to give up his position for Gasly, but this meant that Gasly was able to finish in P7 and gain a solid amount of points for his team and for players holding him on their F1 Fantasy teams.
Isack Hadjar
Qualifying: P6
Race: P6
Isack Hadjar is on his way to avoiding the Red Bull second seat curse with a strong performance in the Barcelona Grand Prix. He spent much of the Grand Prix going wheel-to-wheel with former teammate Liam Lawson and Arvid Lindblad, and Hadjar was able to keep it clean and finish above them both. Additionally, the Frenchman was able to qualify above two past race winners—Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri—and hold his position through two virtual safety cars to finish in P6 as well. He is the third-highest-scoring F1 Fantasy driver of the weekend, only behind Lewis Hamilton and George Russell, with 22 fantasy points and a $0.6M price increase.
Differential Plays
Oliver Bearman and Kimi Antonelli are the first and third most popular drivers for teams in F1 Fantasy so far this year, with 53% of teams having Bearman and 35% of teams having Antonelli. Both drivers were unable to finish this weekend’s race after separate mechanical DNF’s, which means they will each absorb a -20 fantasy points penalty. Teams that ran less popular drivers, especially with their 2x chip, gained more for taking those risks.
Losers
Aston Martin
Qualifying: P21 (Stroll) and P22 (Alonso)
Race: DNF (Alonso) and DNF (Stroll)
Aston Martin have struggled all season for pace and reliability, and that struggle continued in Barcelona with a double retirement for the team. It won’t be much consolation for him, but Alonso‘s retirement significantly impacted the race by allowing Lewis Hamilton to pit under safety car and eventually win. For Aston itself though, this entire first third of this season has been one to forget. They end the weekend with -36 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.6M price drop.
Nico Hulkenberg
Qualifying: P9
Race: DNF
Audi will be immensely disappointed that Nico Hulkenberg was unable to finish the race today after such a promising start to the weekend with a P9 in Qualifying. He ran within touching distance of championship points before he had to retire the car due to a mechanical issue. F1 Fantasy wise, he scored -15 points and lost $0.2 in budget. Importantly, this price drop puts Hulkenberg at the F1 Fantasy asset price floor, meaning he could still be an option for teams that are tight on budget.
Kimi Antonelli
Qualifying: P3
Race: DNF
Kimi Antonelli’s dream start to the season came to a dramatic halt in Barcelona after he retired late in the race. Antonelli started two places behind George Russell but looked quicker in race pace throughout the early laps. He had just passed Russell for P2 on track before his Mercedes broke down and he was unable to hold on to that position, or any, in the Grand Prix. He finished with zero championship points and -4 F1 Fantasy points. Antonelli’s pace is clearly still strong, but his DNF will certainly put a damper on his popularity on F1 Fantasy teams.
