How strategy mistakes shaped the British Grand Prix

The British Grand Prix turned out completely different from expectations, as McLaren dominated while rivals like Red Bull, Ferrari, and Mercedes fell apart due to poor decisions and setup issues. Mercedes made a “catastrophic” call to switch to slick tires too early, ruining both drivers’ chances and ending with just a single point. Red Bull’s decision to run a low-downforce rear wing worked in qualifying but backfired in the rain, leaving Max Verstappen to settle for fifth. Ferrari struggled the most, as Leclerc and Hamilton battled a lack of pace and difficult setups, finishing far off the podium despite strong practice sessions.

How SVG made history in Chicago

Shane van Gisbergen has now won four out of five races in Chicago between the Xfinity and Cup Series, only missing out in 2024 after getting wrecked. His latest win puts him with Denny Hamlin, Kyle Larson, and Christopher Bell as the only drivers with more than one Cup win this year, and he’s now the top winner at Trackhouse. With three Cup wins, SVG is the most successful foreign-born driver in NASCAR history, ahead of Montoya, Suarez, and Ambrose. He also became the first driver since 2016 to win both the Xfinity and Cup races from pole in the same weekend.

What to watch in Iowa’s IndyCar doubleheader

The NTT IndyCar Series heads to Iowa Speedway for a crucial doubleheader weekend, offering more points than any other event on the 2025 calendar. Alex Palou, who leads the championship and recently claimed his first oval win at the Indy 500, aims to extend his advantage after nearly winning at Mid-Ohio. He and Kyle Kirkwood have dominated the season so far, winning nine of the first ten races. Team Penske has had a tough season with crashes and rule violations but hopes their strong record at Iowa will help them bounce back.

Ferrari loses power for Sao Paulo showdown

Ferrari’s 499P Hypercar will race with less power and more weight at the Sao Paulo 6 Hours, running at 480kW and 1064kg. This means it is 35kW weaker and 27kg heavier than it was at Le Mans, and slower than at Interlagos last year. The changes are based on Ferrari’s strong results in the last three WEC races, Qatar, Imola, and Spa. Other cars were also adjusted: Toyota got a small power increase, Porsche and Cadillac gained power and lost weight, Alpine lost power, and Peugeot and Aston Martin will run at maximum power and minimum weight.

NASCAR can't stay out of its own way

Shane van Gisbergen was the clear star in Chicago, winning the race with ease and showing he's the one to beat on street tracks. The race got messy when Carson Hocevar caused a crash that took out several top drivers. Big names like Chase Elliott and Bubba Wallace also dropped out of the in-season bracket after a rough and aggressive fight on track. NASCAR was once again criticized for waiting too long to throw a caution after a hard crash near the end.
