How Mercedes and Red Bull bent the wing rules
Mercedes and Red Bull made updates to their front wings to let them flex slightly under the rules, which made their cars faster even as they focused on next year’s cars. Mercedes adjusted the flap, and Red Bull added new parts to deal with understeer and allow some movement. Ferrari stopped updates on their front wing after the rule change and put effort into the rear suspension, but that didn’t lead to better results. Now Ferrari is behind Mercedes and Red Bull and could lose third place in the championship.

Harrison Burton parts ways with AM Racing
Harrison Burton and AM Racing announced they will go their separate ways after the 2025 NASCAR Xfinity Series season, and the team made it clear that Burton was not fired. Burton has been the team’s best driver since 2023, with two top 5 finishes and several other strong results that got him into the 2025 playoffs. He joined AM Racing after being dropped by Wood Brothers Racing in the Cup Series, even though he gave them their 100th win and made the playoffs. It seems Burton may already have a new ride planned for 2026, but no details have been shared yet.

Blomqvist sets record to lead Petit Le Mans
Tom Blomqvist set a new GTP lap record at Road Atlanta with a time of 1:09.628 in the No. 60 Acura and will start first for the Motul Petit Le Mans. In LMP2, Steven Thomas went fastest with a 1:13.157 lap, while George Kurtz crashed and had his two best lap times taken away, so he starts last in that class. Lorenzo Patrese was fastest in GTD with the No. 47 Cetilar Ferrari, and Dan Harper took first in GTD Pro after Albert Costa lost his fastest lap because of a red flag in practice. The 10-hour race starts Saturday at 12:10 p.m. EST and will be shown live on NBC, Peacock, and IMSA’s YouTube channel.

This is his first year with RFK Racing, and he has done well with three top-5 finishes and eleven top-10 finishes but hasn’t won yet, with his best result a third place at Las Vegas in March. His new team has done better than many expected, and Preece is hopeful he can finally win in this weekend’s playoff race.

Will Verstappen race at Nordschleife this weekend?
Max Verstappen won his first GT3 race at the Nurburgring two weeks ago before his teammate Chris Lulham finished the race and won. Even though he did well, Verstappen will not take part in today’s last round of the Nurburgring Langstrecken-Serie (NLS). He said he needs a break after six weekends in a row with four F1 races and two NLS events. Verstappen wants to race the 24-hour Nordschleife next year but says he needs more practice first.
