Leclerc tops the timesheets at home track during FP1 | Monaco Grand Prix FP1 Results 2025

It's round 8 of the 2025 Formula 1 season and the drivers and teams have landed in Monaco! This infamous street circuit is the shortest on the current calendar and it's narrow corners challenge the drivers talents and skills. Home to Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, Monaco is always difficult, see what happened in the first practice session of the weekend:

  • Max Verstappen claimed a dominant win in Imola ahead of the McLaren of Oscar Piastri
    • Piastri still leads the Driver's championship, sitting ahead of his teammate, Lando Norris
  • Charles Leclerc is having a difficult morning at his home track as the Monegasque driver ran wide very early on in the session, relying on the escape road to keep him out of the barriers
  • Unfortuantely the challenges continued for Leclerc as the Monegasque driver damaged his front wing
    • Lance Stroll pulled over to let a driver through on the racing line, but made contact with Leclerc as he pulled back on to the track
      • This brought out the red flag to ensure the marshals had time to clean up the debris safely on track
  • Lance Stroll had to retire from the session as the damage from his contact with Charles Leclerc resulted in suspension damage and a gearbox change
  • Pierre Gasly got stuck in traffic and nearly found himself in some trouble out on track
  • Liam Lawson stated "I smell brakes' alluding to the fact that his brakes may have been heating up and smoking
  • Carols Sainz made a mistake, heading into the escape road
    • This briefly brought out the yellow flag as the Spanish driver had to reverse himself back on to the grid
  • Lewis Hamilton got air in his Ferrari, landing with a heavy impact and nearly damaging his car
  • Charles Leclerc topped the session ahead of Max Verstappen and Lando Norris
