The inaugural Ontario Honda Dealers Indy at Markham takes place from August 14-16, bringing Canada's premier IndyCar event to a brand-new street circuit in Markham, Ontario, a city in York Region approximately 50 minutes north of downtown Toronto by car.
With thousands of fans expected to attend and several travel options available, planning how you'll get to and from the circuit will save you time and make your experience much smoother. Whether you're traveling from downtown, elsewhere in the greater Toronto area, or even from way out of town, here's what you need to know.
How to Pay for and Use Toronto-Area Transit
Public transit is your best bet for finding your way to the circuit, and you have several options when it comes to paying your transit fare in and around Toronto.
PRESTO is the electronic fare payment system used across the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area, including for GO Transit, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC), and York Region Transit (YRT). You can use a physical, rechargeable PRESTO card that you tap to pay for public transportation in Ontario. Or you can add a PRESTO card to your Apple Wallet or Google Wallet.
You can also skip PRESTO altogether and tap a contactless credit or debit card on the PRESTO reader .
When traveling on GO Transit, you must tap on when you enter and tap off when you exit. Make sure you use the same PRESTO card, credit card, or debit card for both taps.
For TTC buses, streetcars, and subway stations, you only need to tap when you enter; there is no tapping off when you exit.
If you're using the TTC to get around Toronto before or after race day, TTC offers day passes for unlimited TTC travel for $9.70 ($13.50 CAD). You can purchase these tickets at any TTC station. GO Transit offers a one-day pass for $7.17 ($10 CAD), or two-day pass for $10.75 ($15 CAD).
Under Ontario’s One Fare Program, transfers between YRT, GO Transit, and TTC are fully covered, meaning if you pay for one you can transfer to another without needing to pay more. You just need to make sure you use the same form of payment and switch within two hours.
Check Metrolinx (manages GO, UP Express, and PRESTO) and TTC service updates for the latest GO Transit and TTC schedules and delays to avoid any issues during the weekend.
Taking the GO Train to Markham’s Unionville Station
Taking GO Transit to the Unionville station is the most direct way to reach the race circuit while avoiding local road closures and heavy traffic. That station is located on the Stouffville GO train line. For reference, it takes approximately 45 minutes to reach it from the Union Station stop in downtown Toronto.
The Unionville GO Station sits alongside the circuit perimeter, adjacent to the pit lane grandstand, making it a short walk straight to the venue gates.
Due to road closures during race week, access around Unionville GO Station may look different than usual. Fans arriving by train should follow on-site signage and staff directions when leaving the station and allow extra time to reach the circuit.
Heading to Markham from the Toronto Airport? Use the UP Express
For visitors coming from or near the Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), the UP Express train offers one of the simplest ways to reach the race without renting a vehicle.
These trains run every 15 minutes and take you directly from Pearson Airport to Union Station in just under 30 minutes. Once at Union Station, simply transfer to a GO train and continue your journey to Markham’s Unionville station.
The Toronto Transit Commission: Toronto’s Public Transit System
For IndyCar fans staying within the city of Toronto, the subway, streetcars, buses, and the new light rail (LRT) lines all offer seamless travel to Union Station where you can catch a connecting GO train on the Stouffville line toward Old Elm. Make sure to exit the GO train at the Unionville station.
Using the York Region Transit (YRT) Buses
If you are staying in Markham or elsewhere in York Region, YRT buses offer direct access to the track area. Main weekend routes include:
- Route 1 – Highway 7: Serves the Highway 7 corridor.
- Route 8 – Kennedy: Connects along Kennedy Road (Northbound Stop 9884; Southbound Stop 9885).
- Viva Purple: Serves Highway 7. (Note: Viva Purple A will not operate on Saturday or Sunday; check YRT service updates before traveling).
All three provide access to the Highway 7/Main Street Unionville area, which is within walking distance of the event entrance. Walking Directions: From any of these YRT bus stops, walk south along Main Street Unionville toward Enterprise Boulevard and Unionville Gate to reach the event entrance.
Driving
Driving remains a practical option for fans traveling from across Ontario or neighboring provinces.
From Highway 407 (ETR): Take the Warden Avenue exit north, then turn right onto Enterprise Boulevard.
From Highway 404: Take Exit 27 for Highway 7 East, turn right onto Warden Avenue, and turn left onto Enterprise Boulevard. Alternatively, take Exit 25 for Steeles Avenue East, turn left onto Warden Avenue, and turn right onto Enterprise Boulevard.
Expect heavier traffic during morning entry hours and immediately following the final track sessions each afternoon.
Parking
There are three ticketed parking lots available at the circuit, all along Enterprise Boulevard west of the track. Parking prices include taxes and are subject to change without notice.
Green Remington South Lot: Closest to the circuit and available only as a 3-day pass for $107.61 ($150 CAD). These tickets are sold out.
Blue Remington/Aviva Lot: Furthest from the circuit and available as a 2-day pass for $50.22 ($70 CAD), or single-day Saturday or Sunday passes for $25.11 ($35 CAD) per day.
Red Enterprise Lot: Available as a 3-day pass for $86.09 ($120 CAD), or single-day Friday, Saturday or Sunday parking for $28.70 ($40 CAD) per day.
All three parking lots are located around the event area and provide access to the festivities through the west gate near the Unionville GO Station. Your parking pass will be emailed and must be scanned for entry. No re-entry is permitted.
There is no overnight parking, and only standard-sized vehicles are permitted. All parking and ticket sales at event gates are cashless. Parking passes should be purchased and reviewed before race weekend, as prices and availability may change.
Rideshares and Taxis
Uber, Lyft, and local taxi services will also be available throughout the Markham area.
While rideshares offer a convenient option for fans without a vehicle, increased demand throughout the weekend may result in surge pricing and longer wait times, particularly after the IndyCar race concludes.
Due to road closures around the track, rideshare drivers cannot access central Enterprise Blvd. Set your destination to designated rideshare drop-off zones on the outer perimeter of Markham Centre.
Plan Ahead for Race Weekend
