The inaugural Formula 1Spanish Grand Prix at the Madring saw a familiar 2026 winner as Kimi Antonelli took his eighth win of the season. He was able to take the lead through a quick pit stop under the Virtual Safety Car and never looked back from there. While he led, there were four total retirements behind him, but none from a red flag as the F1 grid kept it relatively clean. In fact, the Madring proved to be a difficult place to overtake, which meant significantly fewer F1 Fantasy points were awarded for gaining/losing positions and overtakes. Winners and Losers below…
Winners
Mercedes
Qualifying: P2 (Antonelli) and P6 (Russell)
Race: P1 (Antonelli) and P5 (Russell)
Mercedes were disappointed when they lost out on pole to Lando Norris, but a well-timed VSC and strong pace led Kimi Antonelli to win his eighth Grand Prix of the season. He now has more F1 career wins than his teammate, George Russell. Russell didn’t have the same pace this weekend, finishing P5, but he was able to gain 10 extra F1 Fantasy points for getting the fastest lap. The team scored an impressive 87 F1 Fantasy points, nearly 30 more points than the second-highest-scoring constructor, Red Bull, who ended the weekend with 59 fantasy points. The Silver Arrows continued to increase in budget as well with a $0.3M price change.
No Negative Users
There have been many opportunities this year to use the No Negative chip, but for players who held on to it this far into the season, the Madring was certainly a good place to play it with eight red flags across the F1, F2, and F3 track sessions leading up to F1 Qualifying. While there actually weren’t any crashes or red flags after that, there were four retirements from the race: Lewis Hamilton, Sergio Perez, Carlos Sainz, and Lance Stroll. While some of these drivers had been facing reliability issues throughout the season, Lewis Hamilton had previously completed every lap.
Alpine
Qualifying: P9 (Colapinto) and P14 (Gasly)
Race: P7 (Colapinto) and P12 (Gasly)
Alpine continued their strong season fighting at the top of the midfield during the Spanish Grand Prix. Franco Colapinto was the highest-scoring midfield driver in P7, and Pierre Gasly just missed out on the points in P12. While there wasn’t a flashy moment in Madrid compared to Gasly’s pole last weekend, Alpine’s consistent, steady pace led them to 24 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.3M price rise.
Liam Lawson
Qualifying: P8
Race: P6
Liam Lawson continued to have a strong run of form as the Red Bull substitute for Isack Hadjar with a P6 finish at the Madring. He was able to hold off Franco Colapinto at the end and take advantage of Lewis Hamilton’s retirement to gain one place from his qualifying position. This may only have been his third race in the senior team, but Lawson is adapting quickly and well. He finished with 16 F1 Fantasy points and a $0.2M price change.
Audi
Qualifying: P11 (Hulkenberg) and P12 (Bortoleto)
Race: P10 (Hulkenberg) and P13 (Bortoleto)
Audi looked like they were going to have yet another weekend where they fell just short of championship points, but Nico Hulkenberg was able to grasp the last championship point on offer with his P10 finish. Additionally, the mechanics earned another 5 F1 Fantasy points for their fast pit stop. Overall, Audi earned 10 F1 Fantasy points and had another $0.6M price rise.
Losers
Lewis Hamilton
Qualifying: P4
Race: DNF
Lewis Hamilton’s inaugural race at the Madring might have been short, but it certainly wasn’t without drama. It almost looked like Hamilton was going to take the lead from polesitter Norris at the first corner until Hamilton was caught in a scuffle with Max Verstappen. His brake pedal then went long and he was forced to retire in the pit lane. Prior to this race, Hamilton had been the only driver to score points in every race weekend thus far. He finished with -13 F1 Fantasy points and a -$0.1M price change.
Carlos Sainz
Qualifying: P17 (Started P20)
Race: DNF
The latest iteration of the Spanish Grand Prix may have been cause for celebration for Carlos Sainz, who helped shape his new home F1 race, but the actual race day itself was a bit of a disaster from start to finish. He received a three-place grid penalty after Qualifying, meaning he started P20 on the grid. He was then involved in a first-lap tangle with his fellow countryman, Fernando Alonso, and received a five-second time penalty for it. It was always going to be an uphill battle from there, and unfortunately Sainz didn’t get to finish it after a mechanical issue caused him to retire in the pits. He finished with -18 F1 Fantasy points and a -$0.6M price change.
Aston Martin
Qualifying: P18 (Alonso) and No Time Set (Stroll)
Race: P17 (Alonso) and DNF (Stroll)
Aston Martin’s season looks like it’s unraveling again, as the team has been plagued by various issues throughout this race weekend. Fernando Alonso was involved in a first-lap tangle, and Lance Stroll had to retire relatively early in the race due to a brake failure. He was unable to bring his car back to the pits safely, and a Virtual Safety Car was called as a result (the same one that tipped the scales in Kimi Antonelli’s favor to win). Aston Martin finished with -17 F1 Fantasy points and a -$0.6M price drop.
