Pirelli faces conflicting data on 2026 cars

Pirelli says Formula 1 teams are giving them very different predictions for the 2026 cars. Some teams expect lap times to be up to four seconds apart and downforce levels to vary by as much as 30%. The situation is more complicated because teams are experimenting with different brake systems and energy recovery methods, which can alter tire temperatures and loads. Pirelli must decide on the tire design by September 1, but it will use the early 2026 races to learn more and prepare for 2027.

NASCAR drivers facing possible seat loss in 2026

Tyler Reddick, Bubba Wallace, Corey Heim, and Zane Smith could all lose their seats if 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports lose their charters in the court fight with NASCAR. Jordan Bianchi of The Athletic said both teams admitted they would be “out of business” after 2025 if they lose, leaving their drivers with very few spots to move into. The trial is set to start on December 1, but Bianchi said it is impossible to predict the outcome, with the lawyers being the only clear winners. Wallace also made news for causing a 12-car crash at Daytona, and co-owner Denny Hamlin said his driver squeezed cars too tightly and set off the wreck.

What’s ahead for INDYCAR in Nashville

The INDYCAR season ends Sunday at Nashville Superspeedway, and Alex Palou already has the championship after winning it two races ago in Portland. Palou shut down F1 rumors but said he would still listen if an opportunity came, while Colton Herta tries to win at Nashville again. Scott Dixon said he is not retiring yet, but Will Power’s future with Team Penske is still unclear, with David Malukas linked as a possible replacement. The Rookie of the Year battle is also close, with Louis Foster eight points ahead of Robert Shwartzman going into the race.

NASCAR won’t redistribute charters amid lawsuit

NASCAR told a federal court that it will not sell or redistribute any charters until the antitrust trial with 23XI Racing and Front Row Motorsports begins on December 1. The two teams, owned by Michael Jordan, Denny Hamlin, and Bob Jenkins, claim that NASCAR pressured them into refusing charter deals and argue that losing charters would severely harm them, potentially jeopardizing drivers and sponsors. Judge Kenneth Bell asked why NASCAR couldn’t use the “open” charters and will decide next week if the six disputed ones should be returned for now. The case has grown tense, with emails showing NASCAR leaders saying they had all the power, while Jordan says he is ready to go to trial.

Weug snatches pole in Zandvoort thriller

Maya Weug took pole position at Zandvoort with a last-second lap, giving her home crowd a thrilling finish and putting her back in the title fight. She beat Alisha Palmowski by just 0.039 s, with Ella Lloyd completing the top three. The session was chaotic, with red flags, damp conditions, and several drivers swapping the top spot in the closing minutes. In the end, Weug’s 1:38.834s sealed pole for Race 2, while Nina Gademan claimed reverse-grid pole for Race 1.
