Alpine names new team boss role
Alpine has hired two new people to help improve its Formula 1 team: Steve Nielsen will become managing director, and Kris Midgley will lead aerodynamic development. Nielsen will start on September 1 and handle the daily operations at the team’s Enstone base, taking over some tasks left by Oliver Oakes, who resigned in May. The team won’t name a new team principal, but Nielsen, Flavio Briatore, and Dave Greenwood will share the main duties. Midgley, who recently worked at Ferrari, returns to help Alpine prepare for the big rule changes coming in 2026.

RCR switches drivers after best finish
Richard Childress Racing is bringing back its third car, the No. 33 Chevrolet, for this weekend’s NASCAR Cup Series race at the Chicago Street Course. Austin Hill will drive the car, which has only appeared three times this season, once by Hill and twice by Jesse Love, who recorded its best finish of 29th. This weekend’s race has 41 cars entered, but only 40 can qualify, meaning one of the five open (non-chartered) entries will be sent home. While Hill and RCR are expected to make the cut, even a small issue in Saturday’s qualifying could put their spot at risk.

Genesis limits WEC test program to Europe
Genesis Magma Racing will only test its new GMR-001 race car in Europe before joining the World Endurance Championship in 2026 because it’s too difficult to organize testing outside Europe. The first car will be ready in July, and the team will start testing in August at Paul Ricard in France. They plan to do six test sessions and hope to add a second car soon, including a 24-hour test. Genesis still plans to join IMSA in 2027, but they might skip the Daytona race to make sure everything is properly prepared first.
