2026 cars to debut in private test

Formula 1’s new 2026 cars will first be tested in private from January 26th to 30th at the Circuit de Catalunya in Spain. After that, two more tests will take place in Bahrain from February 11th to 13th and 18th to 20th. There will be 11 test days in total, which is more than usual because the cars will have new engines, smaller tires, and more moveable parts. Also, the Azerbaijan Grand Prix has been moved to Saturday, September 26th, to match a national day.

Hamlin crashes out in NASCAR's chaotic tournament opener

NASCAR's first in-season tournament began at Atlanta Motor Speedway with the Quaker State 400, and chaos erupted almost immediately as several top-seeded drivers crashed out. The format has faced criticism from fans who view it as a pointless gimmick, especially since the tournament races still count as regular season events and don't impact the overall championship. Denny Hamlin, the tournament's No. 1 seed, was eliminated early after crashing, while his low-seeded opponent Ty Dillon advanced by staying out of trouble and finishing eighth. In total, three of the top four seeds were knocked out due to crashes, and half of the matchups were won by lower-seeded drivers, making the seeding process feel pointless.

Alpine’s Paul Aron to make FP1 debut with Sauber

Paul Aron, who is a reserve driver for Alpine, will make his Formula 1 free practice debut with Sauber at Silverstone and Budapest. Even though he is part of Alpine’s team, they agreed to let him drive for Sauber in two FP1 sessions, taking over from Nico Hulkenberg. Aron finished third in last year’s Formula 2 and will also drive in three more FP1 sessions for Alpine later this season. He said this is an important step toward his dream of racing full-time in F1, and Alpine’s Flavio Briatore said it’s a good way to give young drivers more time on track.

Why did Ben Ainslie leave SailGP?

A legend on the water and arguably Britain’s most decorated sailor, Sir Ben Ainslie shocked the sailing world when he stepped down as driver of the Emirates GBR SailGP Team in December 2023. He called it “probably the toughest decision I’ve had to make in my sporting career.” But for a man who’s built a career on chasing the wind and defying odds, one question still lingers: why did he really walk away?
