McLaren top another session in Barcelona, this time with Oscar Piastri ahead of George Russell and Max Verstappen
Lando Norris topped the first free practice session in round 9 of the 2025 Formula 1 season. The drivers took to the track in Barcelona, the home race to Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz. FP1 saw two rookies in the session with Ryo Hirakawa replacing Esteban Ocon at Haas and Victor Martins replacing Alex Albon at Williams. Both of the Ferrari drivers were looking strong with Lewis Hamilton finishing the session in P3 behind the Red Bull of Max Verstappen. See what happened in free practice 2:
- Ollie Bearman had a big spin 12 minutes in but managed to salvage it the car and prevent a crash
- Aston Martin driver Lance Stroll's car got a front wing change and ended his session early with 42 minutes to go
- Max Verstappen and Lando Norris set identical lap times of 1:13:070 halfway through practice
- Lewis Hamilton struggled with the Ferrari car and said it was "undriveable" on team radio. His teammate Charles Leclerc said there was "nothing to learn" on the soft tyre run
- Oscar Piastri topped the session ahead of George Russell and Max Verstappen
- Lando Norris finished FP2 in 4th
