In 2023, Barnicoat and teammate Jack Hawksworth won the IMSA GTD Pro championship, delivering the first IMSA title in history for both Lexus and Vasser Sullivan Racing.

Ben Barnicoat was born on December 20, 1996, in Chesterfield, Derbyshire, England. He grew up in a supportive family that encouraged his passion for motorsport from an early age. He began competing seriously in karting at just nine years old.

From 2007 through the early 2010s, he won multiple British and European karting titles, including the CIK-FIA KF2 European Championship, as well as several strong results at Kartmasters GP events. 

He later joined the Racing Steps Foundation at age 13, which provided important financial support and helped him take the next step into professional car racing.

Ben Barnicoat’s career in the Formula series

After dominating in karting, Ben Barnicoat moved into single-seater racing in 2013. He competed in the British Formula Renault Autumn Cup and impressed immediately, winning the title. In 2014, he stepped up to the Formula Renault 2.0 NEC and Alps series, and went on to win the NEC championship. 

In 2015, he added another achievement by winning the BRDC Formula 4 Autumn Trophy. He later picked up race wins in the Formula Renault Eurocup and the FIA Formula 3 European Championship as he continued to build his career in Europe. In 2020, he made a part-season appearance in the FIA Formula 3 Championship with Carlin Buzz Racing and scored points during the Silverstone round.

In 2017, Ben Barnicoat switched from formula racing into GT competition. He quickly built experience in major endurance events such as the 24 Hours of Spa and the GT World Challenge Europe.

His performances caught the attention of Lexus, and in 2022 he joined Vasser Sullivan Racing for a full IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season in the Lexus RC F GT3 as a Lexus factory driver. 

That year, he helped deliver important race wins for Lexus and set the foundation for a future title push. Since then, he has remained with Lexus and Vasser Sullivan in IMSA.

One of Ben Barnicoat’s most memorable moments came in 2023, when he and Jack Hawksworth dominated the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship GTD Pro class. They scored nine podiums and two wins on the way to the championship, which was Lexus’ first IMSA title.

In March 2024, Barnicoat, Hawksworth, and Kyle Kirkwood won the 12 Hours of Sebring. The victory also marked the first Sebring win for both Lexus and Vasser Sullivan Racing.
