The IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the most famous sports car racing series in North America. The IMSA season runs for 11 rounds, seeing teams and drivers travel across North America to compete at some of the most iconic racing tracks. Like WEC, IMSA is renowned for giving fans an unparalleled access to the circuit, the cars, the teams and most importantly, the drivers. Over the course of the race weekend, fans will have numerous opportunities to get close to their favorite teams and drivers.
In addition to the high-speed action, fans also get to enjoy all the activities—pop-ups, concerts, and more—that take place around and nearby the circuit over the course of each race weekend.
Here’s a guide to those different entertainment and off-track experiences you can expect at an IMSA race.
Inside Access with IMSA
IMSA allows access for ALL fans, not just premier ticket holders. This is such a special experience for a racing fan who wants to feel close to the action and the sport they love. Over the course of the IMSA race weekend, fans have opportunities to explore the paddock area, pit lane, and even get up close to the garages where the cars are kept.
This provides entertainment for all ages as it’s one of the most unique aspects of this series and aims to bring fans closer to the behind the scenes and inner workings of a race weekend.
- Paddock Access
- General admission tickets include free access to the Paddock area
- You can walk through the team areas, see the GTP (Grand Touring Prototype) and GTD (GT Daytona) cars being worked on in the team garages
- The Open Grid/Fan Walk
- Prior to the start of both the Michelin Pilot Challenge and the WeatherTech Championship races, the pit lane is opened to all ticket holders
- IMSA allows fans to stand on the grid as the cars are lined up, just moments before the race begins
- Drivers often stand with their cars during this time, posing for pictures and signing autographs for fans

Full-Weekend Racing
IMSA weekends are host to a variety of other support series, giving fans even more on track entertainment. Watching the support series is a great way to continue the racing atmosphere and learn more about other drivers and cars.
- Support Series Action
- IMSA Michelin Pilot Challenge
- Porsche Carrera Cup North America
- Lamborghini Super Trofeo
- Idemitsu Mazda MX-5 Cup

The support series is dependent on the race weekend, so fans should not expect to see all four support series present at each and every IMSA event. There are usually one to two different series that will be racing alongside the WeatherTech Sports Car Championship.
- Maximize Your Time
- Friday is often the best day for exploring the Paddock, as there are fewer fans and the teams are actively performing setup changes and maintenance on the cars
Fan Entertainment
The Fan Zone at IMSA races consists of numerous activities and events for race goers to participate in. Sometimes a break from watching the on-track action is necessary, and if that’s needed, IMSA provides fans with pop ups, live music, food and beverage options, show cars, activities and more to help pass the time over the course of the race weekend.
- Driver Autograph Sessions
- Beyond the Grid Walk, there are usually autograph sessions in the Paddock or Fan Zone on Saturday
- Car Corrals & Parade Laps
- If you own a car of one of the participating manufacturers (Porsche, Lexus, Cadillac, etc.), you can often buy a "Car Corral" pass.
- This grants you exclusive parking, hospitality access, and the highly-prized opportunity to drive your own street car for several parade laps on the actual racetrack (behind a safety car).
- Track Events & Concerts
- Live Music
- Fireworks
- Meet and Greets
