Lando Norris came out ahead of Oscar at crucial moment under the safety car, securing his Sprint win. Kimi Antonelli drops to P10
Before the Sprint started there was chaos after a spat of heavy rain hit the Miami International Autodrome. Here's all you need to know:
- Red Bull changed Yuki Tsunoda's suspension under parc fermé which forced a pit lane start for the Japanese driver, however, due to the delayed start the decision was revised to start him from the grid
- Charles Leclerc lost control in the back straight as his Ferrari aquaplaned during a reconnaissance lap. He collided with the hard track wall, eliminating himself before the sprint race even began
- Drivers went out behind a safety car to check track conditions, but the poor visibility delayed the start for 35 minutes. After one more lap behind the safety car, race control gave approval for a standing start and the sprint race was underway on intermediate tires
- Oscar Piastri, who started in P2, jumped ahead of polesitter Kimi Antonelli in the first turn. It forced Kimi wide in the first turn and dropped him to fourth place
- On lap 11 the track dried enough for Yuki Tsunoda to make the gamble by switching onto a medium tire
- Carlos Sainz punctured his tire and drove his wounded Williams back to the pit lane to retire the car for repairs
- There was a collision in the pit lane as Max Verstappen was unsafely released from his grid box into Kimi Antonelli's Mercedes. It resulted into a 10-second time penalty
- Fernando Alonso brought out the safety car again after crashing at the North and South Beach grandstands. The accident took too long to clean up and the race finished under the safety car
- Lando Norris took the lead just as the safety car hit, and that timing was just enough to lead him to a race win over his teammate, Oscar Piastri
After the session, Haas driver Oliver Bearman was handed a 5-second penalty for an unsafe release into Nico Hulkenberg. This knocked Bearman out of the points and promoted Yuki Tsunoda in his place, awarding Red Bull its sole point of the session.
Further penalties were handed out to Liam Lawson (5-seconds) for his collision with Fernando Alonso, and to Alex Albon (5-seconds) for failing to stay within the minimum time of the safety car for three consecutive sectors
