The No Negative Chip: Explained | F1 Fantasy Guide (2026)

In F1 Fantasy, minimizing losses is just as important as maximizing points. In this guide, we break down how the No Negative chip works, the best times to use it, and walk through an example of this chip from last season.

What is No Negative?

As a reminder, all six chips can only be played once per season. For every driver and constructor on your team, any scoring category at the end of the race weekend with negative points will be set to zero. Assets can lose points for a number of reasons:

  • Not classified/no time set in Qualifying
  • Disqualification from a Qualifying, Sprint, or Grand Prix
  • Not classified in a Sprint or Grand Prix (DNF with less than 90% of the race distance completed)
  • Positions lost in a Sprint or Grand Prix (based on starting position)
  • Constructors lose 1 point if neither driver reaches Q2

The 10-point penalty per transfer after exceeding the free transfer limit is NOT removed when activating No Negative.

When is the best time to use No Negative?

To maximize the No Negative chip, avoiding the penalty for Not Classified (DNF) drivers is the priority — players lose 10 points for Not Classifying for the Sprint and 20 points for the Grand Prix. Wet races consistently produce the most DNFs, and wet Sprint weekends are especially valuable because they provide two chances (the Sprint race and the Grand Prix) for these penalties to hit in F1 Fantasy.

This trend was evident last season. Among the Top 500 teams in the Global League last season, 35% played No Negative in Miami, 23% in Brazil, and 22% at Spa — all wet Sprint weekends. Across the full race weekend, seven drivers failed to reach the checkered flag in Miami and six drivers retired in Brazil. Spa was the lone outlier because race control delayed the start of the Grand Prix for nearly 90 minutes due to torrential rain. When the race finally started, track conditions improved and just one driver retired that weekend.

Looking ahead to 2026, keep an eye on Sprint weekends that frequently feature rain: Miami, Canada, Silverstone, and Zandvoort.

How the No Negative chip works in F1 Fantasy — Example Scenario

For the 2025 Australian Grand Prix, the team below was locked in with the No Negative chip:

At the end of the weekend, several drivers and constructors finished with negative scoring categories and all were set to zero — No Negative saved 63 points from the following:

  • Hadjar: -20 for DNF/NC
  • Bortoleto: -20 for DNF/NC
  • Red Bull: -20 for DNF/NC (Lawson)
  • Ferrari: -3 for 3 positions lost

By clicking on each driver and constructor, negative categories appear crossed out:
