Brief overview of Robert Kubica’s career in motorsport

Robert Kubica is a Polish racing driver best known for reaching the top level of Formula One and later reinventing himself in endurance racing. He began karting in Krakow in 1993 and quickly stood out by competing against older drivers across Poland.

In 2000, he moved into single-seater racing in Italy, winning races in Formula Renault and Formula 3 across Europe. Kubica reached Formula One with BMW Sauber in 2006 and became a Grand Prix race winner in 2008.

After a serious rally crash in 2011, he rebuilt his career and later joined the World Endurance Championship with AF Corse, competing once again at the highest level of international motorsport.

Robert Kubica was born on December 7, 1984, in Krakow, Poland, and grew up in Krakow, Poland, where his interest in cars began at a very young age.

His father, Artur Kubica, played a major role in his early racing life, and bought his first kart when Robert was just eight years old. His mother, Anna Kubica, supported the demanding travel schedule as the family followed Robert across Poland and later Europe during his junior years.

By his teenage years, Robert was spending long periods in Italy, competing in junior series and committing fully to motorsport well before turning 18.

How did Robert Kubica get to WEC?

Kubica entered Formula One with BMW Sauber in August 2006 at the Hungarian Grand Prix in Budapest. However, his breakthrough came with a win at the Canadian Grand Prix in Montreal in June 2008. 

He raced full time in Formula One through 2010 before suffering a life-changing rally crash in Andora, Italy, in February 2011. Kubica sustained severe injuries to his right arm, including multiple fractures and partial loss of mobility, which required several surgeries and years of rehabilitation. After a long recovery, he returned to Formula One with Williams in 2019 and scored points in difficult circumstances despite driving an uncompetitive car.

In 2021, Kubica shifted focus to endurance racing, joining the WEC and winning the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans with Team WRT.

Notable moments and races in Robert Kubica’s career

Kubica’s most famous victory remains the 2008 Canadian Grand Prix, Poland’s first Formula One win. He also finished fourth in the 2008 F1 championship, and narrowly missed out on a title challenge. His comeback continued in 2019, when he scored points for Williams at the German Grand Prix. 

In endurance racing, he won the LMP2 class at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2021 and later secured multiple podium finishes in the World Endurance Championship.
