What is the Bag Policy for IndyCar Races?

Attending an IndyCar race is an exciting weekend activity for any racing fan, with the series allowing fans to get close to their favorite drivers and teams through autograph sessions, pit lane access, and highly accessible paddock passes that would make any F1 fan jealous. Every race is truly an unforgettable experience.

Like all racing series, fans are outside and often in the sun all day, so it’s important to plan your packing in advance. This is especially true for IndyCar which hosts races at three different types of circuits: street tracks, road courses and, lastly, ovals. All of these will have slightly different regulations for what you can or can’t bring into the circuit so it is imperative to check the specific circuit regulations to ensure a seamless race weekend experience.

General Bag and Cooler Policy

IndyCar races are fairly lenient in what fans are allowed to bring into the circuit in terms of outside food and drink. Fans can even opt to bring in coolers to make sure they have enough refreshments throughout the long days at the track. There are size restrictions for bags, so it is important to stay within the guidelines.

Bags/Backpacks

  • Small to medium bags and backpacks are allowed
    • 18” x 18” x 14”

Coolers

  • Soft sided coolers are typically allowed at an IndyCar race
    • 18” x 14” x 15”
  • Be sure to check the specific track regulations for coolers as sizes may vary depending on the location of the race

NOTE: No Glass. Absolutely no glass containers, bottles, or ceramic items are permitted inside the circuit. Transfer all beverages to plastic or aluminum containers.
