What entertainment and events are there at a WEC race?

Attending an FIA World Endurance Championship (WEC) race is one of the most exciting three-day experiences for a race fan. With hours and hours and hours of on-track action, fans get to watch drivers and teams competing at high speeds, providing them with unmatched wheel-to-wheel action. Although most fans come first and foremost for the on-track action, they stay because there is an endless stream of things to enjoy around the circuit throughout the weekend, including activations, merchandise pop-ups, driver appearances and more!

Here’s our guide to the typical entertainment and activities fans can expect at a WEC race weekend both on- and off-the-track.

The WEC Fan Zone

Each WEC race offers fans an area at the circuit where they can indulge in a series of interactive activities to enhance their weekend experience. These activities do vary depending on the particular race, but these are the list of the most common activities found at almost every event on the WEC calendar.

  • Manufacturer and Partner Villages
    • Large displays from brands like Porsche, Ferrari and Toyota
    • Road Cars on display
    • Opportunities to learn about the race history of different teams
  • Driver Autograph session
    • Each race weekend will have a driver autograph session where fans can interact with their favorite teams and people at the circuit
    • Fans can bring their own merchandise to get signed or choose to purchase something new
    • This is a great opportunity for a photo with your favorite driver and an amazing chance to ask any burning questions!

    • These range from local artists, live DJs and occasionally there will be bigger named artists performing to celebrate the conclusion of the race weekend

As Close As You Can Get

WEC is a very special series in the sense that it allows fans to get as close as possible to the action on-track but also off-the-track. There are so many vantage points for fans around the circuits that allow them different views of the cars on track. The freedom to explore the circuit is one of the perks of attending a WEC event as it can be more strict at other series events like Formula 1.

Besides the viewing areas, fans are allowed to partake in a Pit Walk, allowing them to see the equipment and technology up close and interact with any of the team members who are lingering around. This is an unprecedented amount of access that helps fans to feel much closer to the event itself.

  • Pit Walk
    • Fans can walk down the full length of the pit lane, taking photos of the cars in their garages and often meeting the drivers who are open to taking pictures and signing autographs
    • This access is often far more relaxed than in other global series.
  • Explore the Circuit
    • WEC encourages fans to explore the entirety of the track
    • With General Admission tickets, you are free to walk the full perimeter of the circuit to find unique vantage points
  • Infield Views
    • This is a unique experience that allows fans to feel like they are a part of the race itself as they can explore the infield before and after the event
  • The Podium Ceremony
    • After the chequered flag, fans typically gain access to the track surface to stand right below the podium for the emotional trophy presentation and champagne celebrations

Beyond the Main Race

Fans are treated to hours of on track action with the WEC series, but there are also support series that grace the WEC race weekend. The support series compete in between the WEC sessions and are a great way to get familiar with other drivers and teams. Who doesn’t enjoy even more on-track action?

Support series include:

  • European Le Mans Series (ELMS)
  • Road to Le Mans (LMP3/GT3)
  • Porsche Sprint Challenge and Ferrari Challenge races
