Fantasy Preview: Miami Grand Prix

The 2026 season resumes at the Miami International Autodrome in the first of back-to-back Sprint weekends. The site of many overtakes, season-defining upgrade packages, and unpredictable weather, Miami promises to deliver another high-scoring weekend for F1 Fantasy players. Strap in as we unveil the short-term meta lineup, drivers with an especially strong history in Miami, and the opening betting lines. Were Kimi Antonelli's wins in China and Japan enough to earn him the top betting line this weekend?

Meta Lineup Foundations

The debate between building budget and maximizing points by pivoting to a meta lineup rages on. Teams that suffered budget losses in the opening races may use the high-scoring Sprint weekends to snag some quick budget gains through a Tier B constructor such as Racing Bulls (need -38 points or more to gain $0.6M) or Haas (need -28 points or more to gain $0.6M). Meanwhile, high-budget players have the option to continue building their cost cap lead to afford a 4A lineup earlier than ever before.

Many teams expect to pivot to a Kimi Antonelli/Mercedes/Ferrari lineup this weekend since the scoring delta between Mercedes and the top Tier B constructors could be huge. Even after exceptional performances from Haas and Racing Bulls at the last Sprint weekend in China, Mercedes outscored these budget constructors by 50 points and 65 points, respectively. It would take an all-time performance from a second Tier A driver to close that gap and justify the extra $0.3M of value gained.

Along with the two-time Grand Prix winner and strong constructor foundation, the following drivers stand out to complete this new meta lineup:

  • Nico Hulkenberg - With his Australia DNF behind him and the second lowest price on the grid, Hulkenberg's selection rate will increase dramatically this weekend. The P11 finisher at China and Japan, Hulkenberg's wet weather heroics (including last seasons P9 finish in the wet Miami Sprint race) improve his outlook at a circuit known for fast-moving weather.
  • Liam Lawson - A season-high 35 points in China sets up Lawson for an automatic price gain in Miami. He needs -18 points or more to gain $0.6M, while his 14 overtakes in China suggest that Racing Bulls could thrive again since Miami ranked just below China for overtakes in recent seasons.
  • Sergio Perez - Despite concerns over Cadillac's reliability to start the season, Checo completed every racing lap thus far and showed his competitiveness at China by completing 12 overtakes across the weekend. He needs just 2 points to gain $0.6M and stands out as one of the top budget assets of the week.
  • Franco Colapinto - The newfound reliability at Alpine has benefitted Colapinto as he avoided attrition in the opening races. He quietly recorded a championship point by finishing P10 in China, suggesting a more competitive package in 2026, and the Argentine driver ranks third in value gained on the season ($1.4M).

Sprint Chip Rundown

Miami Grand Prix Chips

As we approach the halfway point of the 2026 Sprint calendar, many teams will look to deploy chips in Miami to extract the most value. These four chips stand out to start the week:

Limitless: Teams that gained over $2M of value after Japan may run with a Limitless team to build additional cost cap while their Limitless lineup amasses a huge score. With only one Free Practice session and Sprint Qualifying before locking in a Limitless team, keep a close eye on the upgrade packages that McLaren and Ferrari are rumored to bring to Miami.

3X Boost: With the June 1 hot engine testing around the corner and the Additional Development Upgrade Opportunities (ADUO) window also approaching, Mercedes's run as the top two drivers in F1 Fantasy is in jeopardy. Players still holding the 3X Boost should consider a Russell/Antonelli combination for the 3X/2X Boosts before the top of the grid shuffles in the races that follow.

Wildcard: Several teams will require at least three transfers to pivot from a cost cap building lineup to an Antonelli/Mercedes/Ferrari core. Others may need additional transfers to bring in Liam Lawson, pivot from Ollie Bearman to Esteban Ocon, or slot in Nico Hulkenberg. In general, Wildcard should be considered when taking two or more transfer penalties.

No Negative: In 2025, torrential rain on Saturday led to Charles Leclerc's crash on his out lap in preparation for the Sprint. Two drivers reired from the Sprint and another four drivers failed to reach the checkered flag in a dry Grand Prix on Sunday. Several players may cash in on their No Negative chip with the hopes that history repeats itself this weekend.

Miami History

Best drivers at Miami GP for F1 Fantasy

Lando Norris won his first Grand Prix in Miami two seasons ago and returned to the podium in both the Sprint race and Grand Prix in 2025. His 55 fantasy points at this race last season were the second most Norris scored in his championship-winning campaign. McLaren historically target Miami for their first upgrade package of the season, so players considering the Limitless chip should evaluate McLaren as a differential constructor choice.

George Russell stood on the Miami podium for the first time last season and outperformed Kimi Antonelli, who finished P6 and notably collided with Max Verstappen in the pit lane during the Sprint race. Russell's grip as the consensus 2X Boosted driver on Limitless teams loosened after the Italian sophomore won the last two Grands Prix in China and Japan.

After his teammate, Oliver Bearman, suffered a scary crash in Japan, fantasy strategists will look to Esteban Ocon as a steady source of overtakes and price gain potential this weekend. Ocon finished P8, P9, and P10 from 2022 to 2024 and crossed the line P12 last season. Only Max Verstappen completed more overtakes than Ocon so far this season and only Liam Lawson needs fewer points for a maximum price gain. Ocon's selection percentage should increase as the weekend approaches.

Weather Outlook

Miami Grand Prix 2026 Weather

The early forecast calls for clear skies and moderate temperatures for South Florida, an initial sign to delay using the No Negative chip. Heavy rain appears quickly at this circuit, so keep a close eye on the forecast on Friday and Saturday before locking in any chips since this situation can evolve rapidly.

Betting Lines

Miami GP Betting Lines

The first major betting line shift of the year is upon us. Not only has Kimi Antonelli climbed into a neck-and-neck battle with George Russell for the best odds to win the Grand Prix, the McLaren duo are projected to outshine Ferrari on the heels of Oscar Piastri's first podium of the season in Japan. Teams with two Tier A drivers may consider the Australian over Charles Leclerc, while Limitless teams will need to ponder whether Ferrari's pit stop success can overcome McLaren's resurgent form.

The Fantasy Formula is back to answer all of your questions ahead of the lineup lock deadline. The action begins one hour before the Sprint race, this Saturday at 11AM EST/4PM BST, only on the official FanAmp YouTube channel. See you there!
