Max Verstappen leads both Williams drivers in the first practice session of the Canadian Grand Prix weekend
It's round 10 of the 2025 Formula 1 season and the drivers and teams are back in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix. Oscar Piastri is coming off of a race win in Barcelona and McLaren has been the dominant constructor so far this championship season. Ferrari continues to struggle with Lewis Hamilton growing increasingly frustrated with the team's performance despite Charles Leclerc securing P3 in Spain. See who is looking strong after the first free practice session in Montreal:
- Unlike in 2024, the weather on Friday for the first free practice session was very sunny and warm, creating perfect track conditions for the drivers
- Early on in the session, Charles Leclerc hit the wall and spun out on track causing a brief red flag as the marshals had to clean up the debris
- Leclerc is coming off of an FP3 finish in Spain, but Ferrari has definitely been struggling with their performance over the course of the season
- Leclerc's teammate, Lewis Hamilton, had a spin near the hair pin, but was able to recover the car without any damage to his Ferrari
- Stake's woes continue with Nico Hulkenberg rounding out the bottom of the timesheets and Gabriel Bortoleto finishing in P16
- Isack Hadjar continues his streak of impressive finishes with the young driver ending the practice session in the top five, ahead of his teammate, Liam Lawson
- Max Verstappen topped the timesheets ahead of both the Williams drivers with Alex Albon in P2 and Carlos Sainz in P3
