George Russell topped the second free practice session in Canada ahead of the McLaren of Lando Norris and his Mercedes teammate, Kimi Antonelli
Max Verstappen topped the first free practice session in Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix ahead of both the Williams' drivers, Alex Albon and Carlos Sainz. The weather has been warm and sunny, creating the perfect track conditions for the drivers, especially in comparison to the race in 2024. Charles Leclerc had a big moment early on in the session, bringing out the red flag which temporarily halted the session. His teammate, Lewis Hamilton, had a big spin at the hairpin but was able to recover it, limiting some, if any, damage to his car. See what happened in the second practice session:
- Charles Leclerc was unable to drive in FP2 after crashing in FP1 and causing a red flag
- Leclerc's team had to change his chasis after damage was done to it because of the crash
- Lance Stroll spun out, hitting the wall early on in the second free practice session
- The Canadian driver is coming off of an injury, after missing the Grand Prix in Spain due to pain in his wrist. This is speculated to be connected to his biking accident from a couple years earlier
- Gabriel Bortoleto and Carlos Sainz had an issue out on track with the young driver cursing out his senior for slowing down at an inconvenient spot and then racing him
- Franco Colapinto was struggling out on track and rounded out the bottom of the timesheet, only being faster than Charles Leclerc, who did not participate, and Lance Stroll, who spun out early on in the session
- George Russell was on a flyer and led the practice session after having setting the fastest lap in his Mercedes
- Lando Norris and Kimi Antonelli rounded out the top three
