How ghost cars show 2025’s tiny margins

Lando Norris narrowly missed pole at Zandvoort by 0.012 seconds, a gap made clear by F1’s new ghost car tool. The tool uses GPS and video to show where drivers are faster or slower. It takes about two hours to make, but F1 wants to cut that to 30 minutes. Fans and TV stations like it because it makes close battles easier to see.

Bell brings frustration into Bristol elimination race

Christopher Bell is frustrated with how his season has gone, which showed in his angry radio outburst after finishing seventh at World Wide Technology Raceway. He goes into Saturday’s playoff elimination race at Bristol 32 points above the cutline and will start ninth, but he hasn’t won a points race in 24 events, even though he won three races earlier this year. Bell says his main issue is not being in a position to lead laps or fight for wins, while teammates Denny Hamlin and Chase Briscoe have been winning often. Still, he believes his team has the speed and equipment to turn things around and is hopeful for better results in the playoffs.

Théo Pourchaire set for Peugeot WEC debut in Bahrain

Théo Pourchaire will drive the Peugeot 9X8 for the first time at the 2025 8 Hours of Bahrain, replacing Stoffel Vandoorne before becoming a full-time driver in 2026. The 22-year-old Frenchman, who won the 2022 Formula 2 title, impressed Peugeot with his testing, simulator work, and his LMP2 debut, where he took pole at Imola and finished eighth in class at Le Mans. Peugeot said this WEC race is the next step in his progress and shows he has the skills needed for top-level endurance racing. Pourchaire will race the #94 Peugeot with Loïc Duval and Malthe Jakobsen, and said it is a dream come true to represent the brand.

IndyCar season sees record variety of front-runners

Alex Palou ruled the INDYCAR season, winning the title by leading 14 of 17 races and 778 laps, the most of his career. Even with his dominance, the season was the most competitive ever, with 30 different drivers leading at least one race and most full-time drivers leading multiple events. Many racers, like Devlin DeFrancesco, Kyffin Simpson, David Malukas, and rookies Louis Foster and Robert Shwartzman, reached new career bests. Veteran Scott Dixon closed in on Mario Andretti’s all-time laps-led record, while big oval races at Indy, WWTR, and Nashville had record numbers of leaders.

Emirates GBR shines on day one of France SailGP

On day one of the ROCKWOOL France Sail Grand Prix, Emirates Great Britain SailGP Team took the lead after four races in strong and tricky winds. Dylan Fletcher said the conditions were tough and surprising, but he was happy his team finished on top. Red Bull Italy got their first SailGP win, while the Flying Roos and NorthStar Canada started strong but could not stay consistent. The last race was intense, with Germany hitting 97 km/h, France pushing hard at the start, and Emirates GBR finishing the day in control as F1 driver Valtteri Bottas watched the action.
