SQ1 saw the elimination of Logan Sargeant, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas. The two Haas drivers also had a very underwhelming sprint shootout with Kevin Magnussen finishing the session in 17th and Nico Hülkenberg finishing in 16th.
SQ2 had some very small margins. Guanyu Zhou finished in 15th place with Lance Stroll qualifying just ahead of him. Esteban Ocon had an unsuccessful session, qualifying in 13th, after quite an impressive qualifying yesterday. Fernando Alonso struggled, only being able to put his Aston Martin in 12th position, and Daniel Ricciardo put his Alpha Tauri in 11th, just missing the top ten.
SQ3 had the fans on the edge of their seat! Both of the McLaren drivers qualified well with Lando Norris starting in 4th and Oscar Piastri in 5th. Lewis Hamilton put his Mercedes in 3rd position while his teammate, George Russell, put his car in 8th. Alex Albon had an impressive qualifying session placing his Williams in 9th position. Max Verstappen claimed a well deserved pole position while Sergio Perez put his Red Bull in 7th. Charles Leclerc qualified in 2nd with Carlos Sainz putting his Ferrari behind both McLaren drivers in 6th.
