Oscar Piastri topped the first and only practice session in Spa ahead of the Red Bull of Max Verstappen and his McLaren teammate, Lando Norris
It's Round 13 of the 2025 Formula 1 season and the grid has arrived in Spa for the Belgian Grand Prix. McLaren dominated in Silverstone with Lando Norris securing the race win ahead of Oscar Piastri and the Sauber of Nico Hulkenberg. Hulkenberg claimed his first ever podium in Formula 1, finally ending his bad luck streak. It was announced after the British Grand Prix that Christian Horner has stepped down from his position as Team Principal with immediate effect. Laurent Mekies is set to replace the Brit, and it is unclear what Horner is doing with the team as of now, as he is technically still on the payroll until the end of the season.
- There has been lots of talk around the tire compounds for the Belgian Grand Prix. Pirelli have opted to offer the C1, C3 and C4 compounds, which is slightly unusual as they skipped the C2 compound.
- Carlos Sainz was having immediate issues in his Williams, and it is understood that it was a critical problem, requiring the Spaniard to go into 'limp mode'
- Lance Stroll also remained in the pit lane after suffering some early issues with his Aston Martin
- George Russell and Franco Colapinto nearly had a moment with Colapinto as he was on a cool down lap while Russell was pushing, and the two nearly collided
- Lance Stroll came out of the pits and immediately set the fastest time on the soft compound tires.
- It was short lived with him sitting at the top of the leaderboard, but it was very impressive that Aston Martin was able to get the driver out in solid condition
