What Sainz Sr's withdrawal mean for the FIA

Carlos Sainz Sr has pulled out of the race to become FIA president, leaving Mohammed Ben Sulayem unopposed for a second term. Sulayem had recently regained support through a letter signed by 36 member clubs despite facing backlash, high-profile resignations, and criticism over changes within the FIA. Sainz, though widely respected, couldn’t gather enough momentum or backing in time to challenge Sulayem effectively. With no other candidates stepping up, Sulayem is now expected to remain in office until 2029 without facing an actual vote.

Atlanta set for NASCAR’s $11m showdown

NASCAR is heading back to Echopark Speedway, where Christopher Bell won earlier this year by leading just the final lap. The prize money for the Cup race is now $11,055,250, which is more than $3 million higher than last year, thanks to NASCAR’s new media deal. The Xfinity race will pay $1,651,939, and the Truck race will pay $782,900, showing a rise in payouts across all series. Kyle Busch, Ryan Blaney, and Chase Elliott are expected to be strong this weekend, and Busch will be looking to bounce back after missing out in a tight finish.

Top drivers like Conor Daly, Alex Palou, and Felix Rosenqvist posted some of the fastest times as teams tested a new aero package and tire combination designed specifically for the Iowa oval. The doubleheader event, set for July 11–13, will feature extended 275-lap races and includes appearances from five Indy 500 champions and four former series titleholders.
