Piastri sets Track Record at Zandvoort to Secure Pole | Dutch Grand Prix Qualifying Results

Winds were high at Zandvoort as Qualifying for the Dutch Grand Prix kicked off. Shades of orange filled the grandstands, and indeed the fans had reason to celebrate, as McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris locked out the front row once again.

With that, here are the top takeaways, key moments, and things to know from the Dutch Grand Prix:

Top moments from each session.

Q1: Both Haases out

Both Oliver Bearman and Esteban Ocon were unable to put together a fast enough lap at the end of Q1, and were the only teammate pair to not advance to Q2. With the midfield so tight and track position being critical at Zandvoort, this was a truly disappointing result for Haas. They were joined by Franco Colapinto, Nico Hulkenberg and Lance Stroll, who spun off into the gravel early in the session and had to retire before he could set a lap time.

Q2: Racing Bulls looking strong

In an extremely tight battle to get into the top 10 shootout, both VCARBs of Isack Hadjar and Liam Lawson looked incredibly powerful, easily clearing the cutoff time for the elimination zone. Eyes are on both Red Bull-backed teams as they are among the few left to finalize their lineup for 2026. Of note, Lawson’s lap was the one to knock out Red Bull’s Yuki Tsunoda, who was eliminated alongside Kimi Antonelli, Gabriel Bortoleto, Pierre Gasly and Alex Albon.

Q3: Piastri edges out Norris

The battle between the two McLarens truly heated up, as Piastri outqualified his Norris by a slim 0.012s. With just nine points separating them in the Drivers standings, an advantage of any margin can be a total game changer, and this puts Piastri in a great position to extend his lead.

Max Verstappen rounded out the top three.

Temperature check

Who rose above expectations? And who flopped? Here’s our temperature check for the Dutch GP:

Sizzling - Isack Hadjar. The rookie put down a blazing lap to secure his best Qualifying performance yet: a P4, just behind Verstappen himself.

Ice cold - Nico Hulkenberg. Despite being known as an excellent qualifier, he was unable to advance past Q1 for the fourth time in a row.

Radio of the day - Fox, fox

“There was a fox, entry of Turn 10. But I think he's taking the exit road though.”

A fox made an appearance on track in the early part of Q2, running by the Ferrari of Charles Leclerc. Thankfully, it made a smooth getaway and was unharmed.
