Why F1 sprint plan may hurt rookies
Gabriel Bortoleto believes F1 has created a problem by introducing a sprint weekend to the Singapore Grand Prix, which is already one of the most challenging tracks on the calendar. He argued that racing in the daytime, with walls so close to the track, will make the event even more dangerous. Bortoleto also warned that sprint formats are more challenging for rookies, as there is only one practice session to prepare. While he enjoys the extra racing for fans, he insisted that F1 should not go beyond 12 sprint weekends per season.

McLaren and Palou in contract showdown
Alex Palou was scheduled to join McLaren in 2024 after changes were made to his contract, but in August 2023, his lawyers informed Zak Brown that he would not be following through. Since McLaren’s F1 seats were already filled by Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, Palou chose to stay with Chip Ganassi Racing and signed a deal until 2026. McLaren then sued him for £22.3m, claiming they had lost sponsor money, manufacturer payments, and had to adjust driver salaries. Palou has now won his fourth IndyCar title, said he would handle things differently if he could, and promised to keep winning with Ganassi.

Winners and losers from a wild Kansas cup race
Chase Elliott won his second race of the year at Kansas, moving from 10th to 1st in overtime to secure a spot in the Round of 8. The finish turned messy when Denny Hamlin hit Bubba Wallace while chasing his 60th win, which hurt his own team’s playoff hopes and let Elliott take the victory. Zane Smith’s day ended in a violent crash as his car flipped in the first rollover ever seen at Kansas Speedway. Joey Logano kept a small points cushion, Shane van Gisbergen earned his best oval finish, and Tyler Reddick missed a big chance in the closing laps.

Porsche’s championship lead under threat
Porsche Penske Motorsport won the first four races of the 2025 IMSA season and built a 164-point lead in the GTP Manufacturer’s Championship. That lead is now down to just seven points before the final race at Petit Le Mans, with Acura passing BMW to become Porsche’s main rival. In the Driver and Team standings, Mathieu Jaminet and Matt Campbell in the No. 6 Porsche are far ahead, while their teammates and BMW still have a small chance. In GTD PRO, Chevrolet is leading a close fight with Ferrari, Ford, and BMW, while in GTD, Mercedes-AMG has a big lead thanks to Winward Racing.
