Wheatley plans to turn Sauber’s podium into Audi momentum
Sauber team boss Jonathan Wheatley wants to keep the team’s momentum going after Nico Hulkenberg gave them their first F1 podium since 2012. Wheatley joined in April and says earlier work by the team, plus recent car upgrades, have helped the drivers and crew grow in confidence. He knows the switch to Audi in 2026 will be tough, but he says the project is exciting, and that was the reason he left Red Bull. Wheatley is confident the team is heading in the right direction and says he’s proud to be part of the journey.

Rowe becomes first black IndyNXT winner
Myles Rowe became the first Black driver to win a race at Iowa Speedway in either IndyCar or NASCAR, and also the first to win an IndyNXT race. His win is part of IndyCar’s push to bring in more diversity through its Race for Equality & Change program. He passed Dennis Hauger with 10 laps left, just one day after a tornado cut practice short. Rowe, who is 25, said he’s proud to inspire others and now wants to move up to IndyCar.

Don’t count Horner out yet
Christian Horner was suddenly removed as Red Bull Racing’s team boss after 20 years, even though he helped build the team’s success. His exit came after a difficult period that included leaked messages, behavior complaints, and fights for control inside the team. Important staff like Adrian Newey and Jonathan Wheatley had already left, and many people at Red Bull felt Horner was taking too much credit and acting too proud. Now, Horner may be looking to join another F1 team like Ferrari, Cadillac, or Alpine, as he still wants to win and stay in the spotlight.

Alonso not impressed by latest upgrade
Fernando Alonso said Aston Martin’s upgrade at Silverstone didn’t improve the car as much as they hoped. He said it was a small step forward, but not enough to make a big difference, especially since other teams also brought upgrades. Alonso explained that the team still needs to adjust the car’s setup to get the best out of the new parts. Even though the upgrade didn’t do much this time, he still feels good about the team’s progress this season.

Verhagen takes first career pole at CTMP
American driver Neil Verhagen earned his first-ever pole position in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship by setting the fastest lap in the GTD PRO class at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. He drove the No. 1 Paul Miller Racing BMW and beat all other drivers with a lap time of 1:15.046. In the GTD class, Jack Hawksworth took pole for the Vasser Sullivan team, giving them their fourth straight pole at this track, although they’ve never won a race there. Canadian driver Robert Wickens qualified third in GTD, which is his best result so far, and he hopes to continue his strong record at this circuit.
