The risky fix that ended Haas’s shocking slump

Haas’s 2025 F1 campaign began with a major aerodynamic problem in Melbourne that made the car unstable in fast corners. Team boss Ayao Komatsu said he felt “really sick” as the issue couldn’t be found in wind tunnel tests and stopped the VF-25 from running in its best setup. The team quickly tried an “educated guess” fix at Suzuka without testing, and it worked, with more improvements coming at Imola and a proper upgrade at Silverstone. Even though the car is now fast, Haas has missed several chances to score points and is ninth in the standings, hoping to bounce back after the summer break.

Why Palou’s dominance could be bad for IndyCar

Alex Palou is dominating the 2025 IndyCar season, with eight wins already and a fourth championship almost certain. His success is making the races less competitive, which could hurt fan interest. Most races now get fewer than 800,000 viewers, except for the Indy 500. Palou may be the best thing to happen to IndyCar in years, but his dominance could also be its biggest problem.

Drivers looking to bounce back at Watkins Glen

William Byron got his first win since the Daytona 500 at Iowa, with only three races left for drivers to make the playoffs as the Cup Series moves to Watkins Glen. Kyle Larson wants to bounce back after finishing 28th at Iowa, but he has struggled on road courses lately. Denny Hamlin, who has the most wins this season with four, also had a bad race at Iowa but returns to one of his best tracks, where he won in 2016. Chris Buescher, last year’s winner at Watkins Glen, is under pressure after poor results and is only 23 points ahead of teammate Ryan Preece for the last playoff spot.

Mercedes prepares for final races with small upgrades

Mercedes is focusing on the last 10 races of the 2025 F1 season, as most major car upgrades have been implemented. The current rules will end after this year, so teams will only make minor adjustments for some tracks. Mercedes is experiencing trouble with a new rear suspension but will revert to an older design to resolve the issue. Even without many upgrades, Mercedes will continue to focus on tire care to improve now and future cars.

What's next for Van Gisbergen?

Shane van Gisbergen has had an impressive first full season in the NASCAR Cup Series, winning three of his last eight races and making the playoffs. On Friday, Trackhouse Racing said he has signed a multi-year contract extension, keeping the most successful foreign-born driver in NASCAR history with the team. The 36-year-old from New Zealand has eight wins in Cup and Xfinity races in just three years, plus many titles in other racing series. His teammate Daniel Suarez will leave after this season, and Connor Zilisch is expected to take his place in 2026.
